Good Reads for a cold, cold Tuesday afternoon in Toronto

1) ....The IPPR is a hugely influential body which, whether you like it or not, indirectly affects all our lives. Its Commission on Social Justice had a huge influence on Labour’s social policies, and these days it’s big into climate change, being a founding member of the Global Climate Network. However its strongest legacy has been in providing the intellectual and economic justification for mass immigration. It does this by downplaying the social costs of mass immigration, focusing on the benefits of highly-skilled migration, while maintaining the convenient fiction that the mass immigration disaster is a fantasy created by the “Right-wing press” to stir up readers.........

2) Wikileaks reveals that Iran assassinated 180 Iraqi pilots ... it's their way of taking revenge for the 1980s war between Iran-Iraq and their way of executing the pilots who had carried out air raids on Iran.

3) This is the reason why I am totally against our Canadian troops fighting a losing battle in Afghanistan. With this mode of conducting wars, the cavemen will come out victorious, always. If we cannot fight a war the way it is supposed to be fought, then why is our Canadian govt. putting our young people in harm's way over there in that hellhole? ...More than 500 suspected Taliban fighters detained by U.S. forces have been released from custody .........at the urging of Afghan government officials, angering both American troops and some Afghans who oppose the policy on the grounds that many of those released return to the battlefield to kill NATO soldiers and Afghan civilians
