Tornadoes wreck havoc and utter destruction across several counties and states. More than 200 dead and that number is expected to go higher.
Dozens of tornadoes ripped through the South, flattening homes and businesses and killing at least 248 people in six states in the deadliest outbreak in nearly 40 years. As day broke Thursday, people in hard-hit Alabama surveyed flattened, debris-strewn neighborhoods and told of pulling bodies from rubble after the storms passed Wednesday afternoon and evening.....
....This storm is capable of producing quarter-sized hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph, meteorologists say. Deadly cloud-to-ground lightning is also possible, so people outside in the affected areas are urged to move indoors to shelter.
In New York, a flash flood warning is in effect for Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Nassau, Queens, Westchester, Putnam, and Rockland counties from through the evening.........
