Here's wishing More Power to Canada's Oil Sands

Ah ...ha !!  So, the madman of Libya was trying to nationalize our oil interests in Libya, eh?  It's dangerous to do business in any of those loony tunes lands.  Every single one of them is ruled over by despots, dictators and bullies... all of them little stupid men who think they are God's gift to their people.

......Suncor was saying little Monday as the Harper government announced further details of its sanctions on the Libyan regime — measures it hoped would quickly lead to a toppling of Gadhafi's rule and a return to business as usual.

The company has suspended operations and evacuated employees in Libya in the wake of the violent crackdown on pro-democracy opponents of Gadhafi.

But a series of leaked U.S. diplomatic cables, obtained by the Daily Telegraph newspaper from Wikileaks, paints a portrait of Libyan intimidation of international oil companies — including Canada's Suncor, which merged with PetroCanada in 2009.

Tensions were high that year because Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon had promised to give Gadhafi a tongue-lashing for the hero's welcome Libya extended to a man convicted in the Lockerbie bombing.

That never happened because Gadhafi cancelled a September 2009 stopover in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Gadhafi retaliated by threatening to nationalize Canadian oil operations, according to a September 2009 U.S. cable.

"The recent diplomatic spat between Libya and Canada has had a ripple effect on Canadians working in other companies who are afraid of being deported," said the cable, written by the U.S. embassy in Tripoli...........

Here's much more.
