Caliphate news for today .... just a lick of it


In Somalia: Kenyan fighter jets killed at least 60 Islamist Shebab insurgents in southern Somalia in the latest air strike on insurgent positions, officials said on Saturday.....

In Pakistan: Former President Pervez Musharraf will be arrested on his arrival in Pakistan as a court conducting the trial of those charged with involvement in the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto has declared him a fugitive,a prosecutor said on Saturday....

In Nigeria: Nigeria has been hit by a fresh wave of violence apparently targeting the country's Christian communities. At least 17 people were killed in Mubi in Adamawa state as gunmen opened fire in a town hall where members of the Christian Igbo group were meeting. There were also reports of a deadly attack in Adamawa's capital, Yola....

In Syria: A suicide bomber killed 26 people and wounded 63 in Damascus, Syria’s interior minister said, vowing an “iron fist” response to Friday’s carnage in the heart of the capital after similar attacks two weeks ago. Qatar’s prime minister, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim Al-Thani, said Syria was not implementing a deal with the Arab League aimed at halting violence in the country and that League monitors could not stay there to “waste time.”

In Bahrain: ....The official said the facts of the case involving Nabeel Rajab, head of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, were in dispute but Washington was generally concerned about frequent reports Bahraini police use excessive force against protesters. Bahrain, home to the U.S. Fifth Fleet, launched a sweeping crackdown on anti-government protests last year that drew criticism internationally and from an inquiry panel that found security forces had tortured people to obtain confessions.....

In Libya: Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has arrived in Libya on his first visit since the fall of Col Muammar Gaddafi. President Bashir arrived with a high-level delegation for a two-day visit, airport sources were quoted as saying. He is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of genocide in Darfur and the visit was criticised by Human Rights Watch. It said it raised questions about the new Libyan leadership's commitment to human rights and the rule of law....

In Egypt: ....As in the first two phases of the parliamentary elections, Islamist forces have achieved a sweeping victory, winning 62.2 percent of the vote in the final phase, maintaining their lead in the overall contest....

In Iran: A US Navy ship has rescued 13 Iranians held hostage by Somali pirates for weeks, US military officers said Friday. US military officials said the Navy in the Arabian Gulf rescued on Thursday an Iranian fishing boat that had been commandeered by the pirates.  The rescue comes amid escalating threats from Iran that it could block the Strait of Hormuz in response to stronger economic sanctions against Tehran over its disputed nuclear enrichment program....

In Afghanistan: Eight NATO troops were killed in southern Afghanistan in a 24-hour period ending Friday, Western military officials said. NATO’s International Security Assistance Force did not disclose the nationalities of the troops, but most of those serving in southern Afghanistan are American or British. The south of Afghanistan includes the volatile provinces of Helmand and Kandahar, the traditional heartland of the Taliban.....
