I had a dream last night ....

I dreamt I was having a long conversation with Suaad Hagi Mohamud. It went like this:
Dodo: Suaad I am glad you are now back here with us. It must have been a bad experience for you
SHM: Yes, yes it was very very bad.
Dodo: I read somewhere that you are ill because of the 1 week you spent in Nairobi's Langata Women's Prison.
SHM: Yes that is true
Dodo: Were the other inmates too suffering from respiratory problems like yourself?
SHM : I don't know
Dodo: You know... I am just asking so I can write to Human Rights Org and the UN about Nairobi's prisons SHM: I don't know
Dodo: Okay, let's forget that. Can you tell me what exactly the Canadian woman of Egyptian background, at the CHC in Nairobi said to you?
SHM: None of your business.
Dodo: She said that?
SHM: No - I am saying that to you.
Dodo: Okay, let's forget that too. Why do you think all this happened with the CHC in Nairobi and the Kenyan authorities?
 SHM: Because I am black
Dodo: Uh??? I don't get it. You mean you go to a black country and they do this to you because they do not like their own color?
SHM: No. I am saying Canadian Govt let it happen because I am black
Dodo: Ummmm ... you know that is not true... but let's move on to the good part now. You will become a Millionairess!! If you win the suit, that is.
SHM: Yes. But money is not important to me, I just want to tell the evil Harper govt not to do same to other people.
Dodo: Er... Sauud ... er... all those bloggers who were writing on your behalf every day, will you give them a small something if you get your 2.5M dollars from evil Harper.
SHM: Of course I will. They said every day that evil Harper and his govt are mean and bad to brown and black people. They are right you know.
Dodo: You don't think they said all that because they are from the opposition parties?
SHM: No. Of course not. They are good people you know. Harper is evil.
Dodo: How much will you give to the two bloggers who were writing so much about you ?
SHM: None of your business.
Dodo: How much will you give to the reporters of the MSM ?
SHM: None of your business.
Dodo: Did your lawyer get any advice from the Arar's lawyers or from Arar himself?
SHM: None of your business
Dodo: Do you know that the two bloggers who were writing about you, they never write about the plight of other black and brown people in Kenya and anywhere else.
SHM: So what. Those other people are not Canadian, so they don't count.
Dodo: Even if they are from your own country of Somalia?
SHM: I am Canadian and evil Harper does not like black and brown people and I want to teach him a lesson. I don't care about anything else.
Dodo: Did your lawyer tell you that?
SHM: None of your business.
Dodo: How much will you donate to the NDP?
SHM: None of your business.
Dodo: I too wrote about you, but only once, will I get something ?
SHM: Get lost. No soup for you!!
Dodo: Oh - you like Seinfeld too. Something in common at last.

And then I woke up. Hope this won't be a recurring dream.

1 comment:

  1. SHM said that she knew that in Kenya a bribe is the norm, yet she refused to pay it, saying
'she would rather go to prison'....
go to around the 3 minute mark on the CBC video interview (rt side)
    http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2009/08/21/mohamud-interview.html

questions for SHM that puzzles me:

1.SHM, you said you would rather go to prison than pay a bribe,
then how can you hold a government accountable for the choice YOU made?

    2. (somehwere I read that SHM presented her case to authorities the next or subsequent day, so on that assumption:)
Why did you not present your drivers licence and healthcare documents right then, why wait until the next day?
You were leaving the country, so obviously you had all of these documents on your person, right?
Wouldn't you do everything possible to avoid paying a bribe and facing jail?
