Mini-Ice Age begins

h/t: BarryH -    Now this is something I can believe is happening, not the AGW crap. Freezing temperatures in Florida and Las Vegas! Snow in Texas ! Snow pellets in the Middle East !!

The bitter winter afflicting much of the Northern Hemisphere is only the start of a global trend towards cooler weather that is likely to last for 20 or 30 years, say some of the world’s most eminent climate scientists.

Their predictions – based on an analysis of natural cycles in water temperatures in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans – challenge some of the global warming orthodoxy’s most deeply cherished beliefs, such as the claim that the North Pole will be free of ice in summer by 2013.

According to the US National Snow and Ice Data Centre in Colorado, Arctic summer sea ice has increased by 409,000 square miles, or 26 per cent, since 2007 – and even the most committed global warming activists do not dispute this........

  1. We have a couple of miniature Dachshunds and I can certainly understand the humour in the cartoon but perhaps not as much as Tao, our six inch high male.
We brought another mini Dachshund back from Africa with us and it was beyond funny to see her eyes open wide at the first sight of snow and then disappear completely when she ventured into it for the first time. Her little head poked up from deep within the white stuff but much to her credit she ventured further out to find a nice quiet place to do her business.

  2. It is 10 degrees above freezing and raining in Vancouver... :)

I had the air condition on in my car today. Cypress Mountain is melting.

  3. As for the mini ice-age... bring it on. If this is as bad as it gets then I don't mind at all. A full-blown ice age would see a layer of ice 3-5 kilometres thick across the whole of the north eastern US and Canada. The earth would depress about 100 feet. We still have another 50 feet of glacial rebound to go from the last ice age which ended 12,000-15,000 years ago.
What we're going through now is mild in comparison.
We will eventually get back into a real ice age but, with any luck, it won't be for another few thousand years.

  4. I'm worried about this 20 - 30 years of cold business. Who says exactly? Is it the same people who told us temperatures would just go up? How can they be sure? That seems like a long time to me.

If you ask me, its a strategic prediction. If temperatures go down: "we knew all about it." If they go up at any point: "this is a disaster!" Temperatures go up and down all by themselves. That is the key.

  5. NeilD - aw.. the poor thing. My next door neighbour had a Dachshund long ago when I was a kid. She had a great walk, could really show off her behind, even on those short legs.
For the tiny one, you could pick up doggie boots especially made for short dogs. They have 2 inches or more padding, and would be good in winter so she does not get drowned in the snow.

  6. Sadly, Kobie has moved on to her maker but I recently cleared a path to the back patio so Tao and Zelda could do their business.
