The continuing torture of Iraqis by Iraqis ... after a wrongful war that should rightly have been in Saudi Arabia

Not bombing Saudi Arabia and their black asteroid or comet or whateverthefuck they have in Mecca was the biggest mishap of the Bush administration.  We all know it but few of us really come out and say the obvious.

...The walls of Um Hussein's living room in Baghdad are hung with the portraits of her missing sons. There are four of them, and each picture frame is decorated with plastic roses and green ribbons as an improvised wreath for the dead.

Um Hussein had six children. Her eldest son was killed by Sunni insurgents in 2005, when they took control of the neighbourhood. Three of her remaining sons were kidnapped by a Shia militia group when they left the neighbourhood to find work. They were never seen again.

She now lives with the rest of her family – a daughter, her last son, Yassir, and half a dozen orphaned grandchildren – in a tiny two-room apartment where the stink of sewage and cooking oil seeps through a thin curtain that separates the kitchen from the living room.

Um Hussein looks to be in her 60s and has one milky white eye. She is often confused and talks ramblingly about the young men in the portraits as if they are alive, then shouts at her daughter to bring tea. She told the Guardian how she had to fight to release Yassir from jail.

Yassir was detained in 2007. For three years she heard nothing of him and assumed he was dead like his brothers. Then one day she took a phone call from an officer who said she could go to visit him if she paid a bribe. She borrowed the money from her neighbour and set off for the prison......

Saudi Arabian hacker targets Israel ....

....Apparently part of “the largest Wahhabi hacker group of Saudi Arabia” called Group-XP, 0xOmar posted a statement earlier this month on an Israeli sports website alleging to have hacked into a number of Israeli credit card companies. The hacker claimed to have obtained over 400,000 Israelis’ credit card information and proceeded to release them online with the aim of “making Israeli credit cards untrustable [sic] in the world.”

The security breach was confirmed by Israel David, CEO of Israel Credit Cards-Cal Ltd, and the Bank of Israel. However, Israeli officials insisted that the matter is under control and that only 14,000 valid credit cards have been compromised.

A second batch of 11,000 Israeli credit card details was released by 0xOmar, with a statement ridiculing Israeli claims. In this statement, the hacker added that he has “hacked much more than you can imagine” by penetrating into “more than 80 Israeli servers,” including about one million pieces of credit card data and information from “Israeli military contractor companies.”

Israeli news agencies claimed that an Israeli student identified a 19 year old Emirati in Mexico as the hacker on January 6.

This prompted a third response by 0xOmar, who mockingly denied that he/she had been tracked. The hacker taunted Israeli security agencies to find him/her as part of a game, “You have 2 weeks. If I come back and post another message after 2 weeks, simply you failed and I won the game. Game just started [you lost already, let’s give you another lesson that you are easily defeatable [sic]].” ...........

...An alleged “Muslim Brotherhood in Syria” website claimed responsibility on Saturday for the suicide bombings that targeted Damascus a day earlier, saying they were the first step in “liberating” the capital and vowing there were more attacks to come.

"One of our victorious Sunni brigades was able to target the state security building in Kfar Suseh in the heart of the... capital Damascus in a successful operation carried out by four of our kamikazes drawn from the best of our glorious men, leaving many dead and wounded from the ranks of the Assad gangs," the party said on its official website....

A federal judge has ordered the immediate removal of a Christian prayer mural displayed in the auditorium of a Rhode Island high school, saying it violated a U.S. constitutional ban on state-sponsored prayer in public schools.

U.S. District Judge Ronald Lagueux rejected the school's claims that the message in the mural - which opens with "Our Heavenly Father" and closes with "Amen" - was purely secular.

"No amount of debate can make the School Prayer anything other than a prayer, and a Christian one at that," Lagueux wrote in a 40-page opinion.

Jessica Ahlquist, a student at Cranston High School West, sued the city of Cranston and its school committee in April 2011 to remove the banner, which dates back to 1963. As an atheist, Ahlquist said the mural made her feel excluded and ostracized. She accused the school of violating the Establishment Clause of the Constitution's First Amendment, which prevents the government from promoting one religion over another.

School officials responded that the banner was a historical memento of the school's founding days and did not serve any religious purpose. The prayer encourages values of honesty, kindness, friendship and sportsmanship.

Joseph Cavanagh, a lawyer for the city and school officials, said they were analyzing the opinion to determine whether to file an appeal......

Most Judges are very flawed creatures of the night

It's a deplorable state of affairs when judges and most often jurors too, can no longer be trusted to do the right thing.

A panel of federal judges has ruled that states cannot protect their courts from jurists who base their decisions on international or Koranic law. America needs better judges.

On Tuesday, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a federal district court order blocking implementation of an amendment to the Oklahoma constitution that sought to ban judges from using international or Muslim law as a basis for deciding cases. The amendment was approved in November 2010 by a 70 percent popular vote but has never been enforced. Plaintiff Muneer Awad, executive director of the Oklahoma branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), argued that the amendment infringed on his First Amendment rights. The appeals court agreed.......

50+ fires started in 5 nights by a jihadi muzzie

For a few days over the long New Year’s weekend, it looked as though someone was determined to burn down the entire city of Los Angeles, building by building and car by car. And for just as many days, it looked as though he might eventually pull it off, so flummoxed were firefighters and police at the number and apparent randomness of the attacks.

Beginning in the early morning hours of December 29 and continuing until the early morning of January 2, more than 50 fires were set in the Los Angeles area, most of them in and around Hollywood but with some occurring over the hill and far out into the San Fernando Valley. Most of the fires began with cars torched in carports and garages, but many of the blazes spread to homes and apartment buildings. No one was seriously injured but scores were made homeless and many others lost their cars. With most of the fires set in the dead of night, the attacks were all the more disquieting.....

On January 8, 2012, I delivered a rather passionate speech in Pune, India via skype. I was invited to do so by "Youth 4 Panun Kashmir." The organizers were especially interested in my drawing parallels between Israel and India, Jews and Hindus both of whom have, historically, been genocidally exterminated and driven out of their holy places.

I was approached to speak partly because I have written about Islamic terrorism in India before and partly because I recently took up the case of Dr. Subramanian Swamy, an Indian political leader and economist, who was wrongfully dismissed by Harvard after twenty years for daring to take a "controversial" stand against Islamic terrorism in India.

Here is part of what I said. I think it will be of interest to the readers of Israel National News and perhaps to Israeli diplomats who are in touch with their counterparts in India, because Dr. Swamy was the highest ranking Indian leader to first visit Israel in the early 1980s. His visits led to the establishment of an Indian Embassy and an Israeli Embassy in Israel and India.....

On January 10th, Project Veritas reporters walked into New Hampshire Polling Locations during the Presidential Primaries, saying dead people's names. We stated the name of a dead person we got from the NH obituaries. The names of the deceased were both Registered Republican and Democrats And in almost every case, saying a dead person's name, we were handed a ballot to cast a vote. We used no misrepresentation and no false pretenses. in fact, in almost every case, we insisted we show ID and they insisted that we vote without showing ID.

And the negotiation table will be enough for three people, a Saudi, an Israeli and a Palestinian. Now, how do we get the three to sit down and solve the most complicated and most agonizing issue in modern history? Now, people are losing interest in the Palestinian issue. And the Palestinian refugees, sooner or later, will no longer be under the umbrella of the United Nations. But, Saudis, Israelis and Palestinian negotiators must keep the extremists away from the negotiation table. Solving the refugee issue is the biggest step to solving the Palestinian issue.....

Egypt tells Israelis pilgrims they are not welcomed to Egypt this year

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said Wednesday it had told Israel that it would not be “appropriate” for Israeli pilgrims to make an annual visit to the tomb of a 19th-century Jewish holy man in the Nile Delta, as activists mobilized to block the pilgrimage route.

Ceremonies at the tomb of Rabbi Yaakov Abu Hatizra have triggered yearly political sparring in Egypt throughout most of the last decade, with Islamists, nationalists, and others claiming that the government, by allowing the pilgrimage, is pursuing an unpopular policy of normalization with the country’s former enemy.

Egypt notified Israel two months ago that it would be “impossible to hold the annual ceremony because of the political and security situation in the country,” the official said. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.

An Islamist politician involved in organizing protests against the march meanwhile said that visiting Abu Hatzira’s gravesite in the village of Daymouta, 180 kilometers (112 miles) north of Cairo would be a “suicide mission” for Israelis, because of popular opposition to their presence in Egypt..........

Advances in military science: Magnetic car bombs

A nuclear scientist who is also a Chemical Engineering professor at a university in Tehran was killed on Wednesday after a magnetic bomb attached to his car exploded near Ketabi square in northern Tehran in an attack blamed at US and Israel.

“This terrorist act was carried out by agents of the Zionist regime (Israel) and by those who claim to be combating terrorism (the United States) with the aim of stopping our scientists from serving Iran,” Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi told state television.

However, he said, the attack would not stop Iran forging ahead with its peaceful nuclear program. “They should know that Iranian scientists are more determined than ever in striding towards Iran's progress.”.....

Things heating up to a boiling point in Syria

Gilles Jacquier, a journalist from France TV2 was killed in Homs alongwith eight Syrians. Any day now, we can expect the enlightened individuals at the UN ruling over us puny humans, to tell us, after the fact, that they are in Syria because they want to save Syrians from the evil Assad and his evil regime.

...On his way back to Damascus from Homs, Ian Black has given this account of the attack which, he has been told, left one journalist and eight Syrians dead, and another journalist injured.

As we were leaving a march was beginning, a march in solidarity with the Syrian regime- the sort of thing that happens quite a lot particularly when foreign journalists and especially television cameras are there. There was a second group of journalists travelling separately from our group and who we've been told were filming the march as it was setting off when we think a vehicle in which they were travelling was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade. 

We don't have any further details. But what this does appear to be is the first time that a foreign journalist has been killed in the violence accompanying the uprising in Syria. They've told us what happened- it certainly appears to fit in with their view of how things are on the ground: the Syrian state on the one side and armed terrorists on the other.

But as I say this is the first time I think that a foreign journalist has been killed and, in the way of the world, that's likely to have quite a wide resonance. Of course Syrians are being killed every day; eight others we're told have been killed in this incident. It's part of the ongoing violence in what seems to me, after a few days now in Syria, to be a conflict that is getting worse all the time, not showing any signs of stabilising - quite the opposite. So this will be another detail in that grim, still unfolding story.....
