Canada Fights Human Trafficking .... Awareness is key to eradication

The vid below was made a year ago.... and the Bill that MP Joy Smith is talking about was passed and has been made into law.

A single charge of human trafficking against a B.C. woman accused of forcing a young woman into slave-like working conditions is a small hint of a much larger and horrible secret, experts say.

Benjamin Perrin, an expert on international humanitarian law and assistant professor at the University of British Columbia, said RCMP in the province have been investigating about 30 similar cases.



"It's a positive thing to ... finally see charges laid in one of these recent case," he said. "There are quite a few more where traffickers have never been charged and, of course, never been convicted in the province."

But those are just the cases the police have managed to get to that point.

Robin Pike, executive director at the B.C. Office to Combat Traffic in Persons, said they have helped hundreds of people caught in similar vulnerable situations..........
