Syria .... the lies, the truths, the half-lies, the half-truths and the destruction of an entire country where Christ walked ....

and don't forget the exodus of Christians and the total genocide of the Alawites when the Allahu Akbars take over with help from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Israel, USA, France, Germany, UK and many, many others.  If Assad gives up or is defeated, take it for granted that within a few years the Alawite community will be no more.

The first vid below is from July and the interview was conducted by a German TV station.  Make note of the  fact that Assad is the only leader in the Middle East who can actually converse in English.... do you know of anyone else?  Every other leader from  that part of the world (exception is  Israel, of course) need translators to convey their shit which usually never makes any sense whatsoever.   The second vid is more about an interview 60 Minutes had with a rebel leader.  Find the time to watch at least from the 11 minute mark.

Like Atlas Shrug's Pam Geller has made famous:
"In any conflict between a savage and a civilized man, support the civilized man"

Ask yourself  who is the civilized man if you are given a choice to choose between Assad and any one of the terrorist groups in Syria, even the most mildest one?

Some truths, some half-truths, some half-lies
David E.Sanger writing at NYTimes:
....Most of the arms shipped at the behest of Saudi Arabia and Qatar    to supply Syrian rebel groups fighting the government of Bashar al-Assad are going to hard-line Islamic jihadists, and not the more secular opposition groups that the West wants to bolster, according to American officials and Middle Eastern diplomats......

....The opposition groups that are receiving the most of the lethal aid are exactly the ones we don’t want to have it,” said one American official familiar with the outlines of those findings, commenting on an operation that in American eyes has increasingly gone awry.

The United States is not sending arms directly to the Syrian opposition. Instead, it is providing intelligence and other support for shipments of secondhand light weapons like rifles and grenades into Syria, mainly orchestrated from Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The reports indicate that the shipments organized from Qatar, in particular, are largely going to hard-line Islamists.....

.....American officials have been trying to understand why hard-line Islamists have received the lion’s share of the arms shipped to the Syrian opposition through the shadowy pipeline with roots in Qatar, and, to a lesser degree, Saudi Arabia. The officials, voicing frustration, say there is no central clearinghouse for the shipments, and no effective way of vetting the groups that ultimately receive them......

.....“We haven’t seen anyone step up to take a leadership role for what happens after Assad,” the diplomat said. “There’s not much of anything that’s encouraging. We should have lowered our expectations.”

The disorganization is strengthening the hand of Islamic extremist groups in Syria, some with ties or affiliations with Al Qaeda, he said: “The longer this goes on, the more likely those groups will gain strength.”.....

Half-truths  (Who's making it possible for the allies to get all those arms, dear Mr.Hudson?)
and Truth  (Romney is more delusional than Obama. "Rebels who share our values"???? )
John Hudson writing at TheAtlanticWire:
....Our Allies May Be  Arming the Next Osama bin Laden.....

....While the Obama administration's handling of the Syrian civil war has become an issue in the presidential campaign, it's not clear what Mitt Romney would do differently if elected. Last Monday, he told an audience at the Virginia Military Institute that he would give the rebels who "share our values" the weapons they need to "defeat Assad’s tanks, helicopters and fighter jets,” which suggests he may approve the transfer of antiaircraft and antitank systems.

Obviously, no one thinks these Islamist groups "share our values," but it's proven extremely difficult to ensure that fundamentalists don't get their hands on these weapons. It's not clear exactly how many foreign jihadists have entered the fray, but last month, the United Nations' International Commission of Inquiry said it believed there was "an increasing presence of foreign elements, including Jihadist militants, in Syria" who have been radicalizing the rebels.....
