Serbia to Sue NATO for 1999 Bombings Using Depleted Uranium Ammunition
Serbia has formed an international legal team to file charges against NATO for using depleted uranium munitions during the 1999 bombing of Yugoslavia.

The legal team, proposed by the Serbian Royal Academy of Scientists and Artists, will bring together the best lawyers from Serbia and also from Germany, France, Italy, Russia, China, Britain and Turkey.

In March 1999, NATO launched a series of airstrikes against Federal Yugoslavia.

The aerial campaign and also NATO’s military intervention in Kosovo were not authorized by the UN Security Council and, therefore, violated international law.

In an interview with Radio Sputnik, Vice President of the International Association of Russian-Speaking Lawyers, Mikhail Ioffe, said that Serbia should have filed the lawsuits immediately after the 1999 bombings.

    “From a legal standpoint, they should have brought the charges when the damage [caused by the airstrikes] was there for everyone to see, not now that its traces are no longer evident. Still, the damage they caused to the people’s health is hard to miss,” Ioffe said.

He described the idea of suing NATO for the 1999 airstrikes as “viable.”

Mikhail Ioffe also mentioned a number of legal problems that would prove hard to resolve.

    “The question is whether the US will respond to these charges or not. The other countries could likewise want to shirk responsibility for what they did. The biggest hurdle is that [the 1999 bombings] have not been recognized as an international aggression by any authoritative international body,” the lawyer stated.

    “The UN refused to authorize them, neither did they term the actions by the US and its coalition partners as an act of aggression. I guess this could be a matter for some backdoor diplomatic bargaining Serbia could benefit from,” Mikhail Ioffe concluded.

NATO launched air strikes in Serbia on March 24, 1999, without the backing of the UN Security Council......

Non-existent security at nuclear facilities

83-year-old nun Megan Rice of Washington, D.C.  and two fellow protesters who were caught at an uranium plant in Tennessee after easily  dodging security measures and going deep into the plant have been given tough sentences to set an example to other protesters but in reality to divert attention at how bad the security system was at an important nuclear facility.

When real terrorists gain access to such facilities and blow up stuff,  expect Obama and his regime and even Republicans who might come after him to cover their shortcomings by saying. "It was an industrial accident, not a jihadi attack."

.....Defense attorneys said in closing arguments   that federal prosecutors had overreached in the charges because of the embarrassment caused by the break-in.

"The shortcomings in security at one of the most dangerous places on the planet have embarrassed a lot of people," said Francis Lloyd, who represented Sister Megan Rice of Washington, D.C. "You're looking at three scapegoats behind me.".....

......In Washington on Wednesday, Neile Miller, acting administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration, told a Senate subcommittee that officials have taken "decisive action" since the July 28 intrusion at the Y-12, including a new management team and a new defense security chief to oversee all of the agency's sites.

"The severity of the failure of leadership at Y-12 has demanded swift, strong and decisive action by the department," she said. "Since the Y-12 incursion, major actions have taken place to improve security immediately, and for the long term."

Earlier Wednesday, Rice, Michael Walli and Greg Boertje-Obed testified on their own behalf, saying they have no remorse for their actions and were pleased to reach one of the most secure parts of the facility.....

And that claim is probably true. If the armchair politicians who use NATO as a cover to satisfy their own lust for blood and mayhem use soldiers as surrogates for the killings abroad, then they should also take the responsibility for the aftermath of such sojourns into places and conflicts they know less to nothing about.

I think the Veteran Affairs department is staffed with idiots otherwise how else can you stomach    their stance: 

.... But the Veterans Affairs department maintains it's unlikely any Canadian soldiers were contaminated with depleted uranium because few, if any, ever came into contact with it while in service....

How do they know that ? Did they test the soldiers while they were in combat in Bosnia? How many times were the tests carried out? Did they run tests after their return from Bosnia?

If we can spend billions of dollars on wars born out of ignorance (Bosnia and Libya, to name just two) then we should be able to spend a percentage of that money to take care of those who fullfilled the politicians blood lust in foreign countries and came back much less the men and women they used to be.
