Could all of us PLEASE say that we want to take back our $1 Billion+ from the CBC. They can swim for the shore on their own or drown trying.
The Harper government is asking Canadians what Ottawa's spending priorities should be in the lean times when the recession deficits have to be whittled away.
In the run-up to last year's budget, Ottawa asked Canadians how it should spend money. This time, Canadians will be asked to look beyond the 2010 budget, and tell the government how it should tighten its belt.
The first session comes Friday when Prime Minister Stephen Harper holds an economic roundtable with business leaders in Saint John. Next week, a broader, government-wide consultation will begin.
While it might seem politically unwise for governments to talk about the pain to come, the populist touch of asking for Canadians' opinions on facing tighter times could be politically shrewd.
“It frames the problem facing the country as the deficit, as opposed to health care,” said pollster Greg Lyle, managing director of Innovative Research Group. “If the problem you want to solve in the election is getting somebody who's best able to handle the deficit, the answer's going to be Stephen Harper.”........

Why can't we have Israeli-type airport security?
They are doing something right, right? The airlines and airports of the nation that is the most hated by Muslim terrorists from evey corner of the globe, is the nation that has the least trouble with these flying scum. So, why are we not getting the Israeli know-how or better still hire Israeli consultants to train Canadians as airport security guards?
Spending huge amounts of money on body scanners, that our Federal Transport Ministry are now planning to purchase, will probably not do very much to lessen the waits and woes at airports, like the ones experienced last week by this Calgary woman. Our Canadian govt should start looking seriously at engaging the Israeli govt to teach us the fine points in the security of our aircraft and airports by making us more dependent on human perceptions, human instincts and profiling rather than on scanners and machines. A determined murderer who is not afraid to die will always find ways to beat machines, because machines are easy to read if you are so inclined. Humans are not. Train humans and rely less on machines to defeat terrorism.
As the writer of this article says: "Do as the Israelis do: Think." Absolutely right lady!

Failed state of Pakistan sinks deeper to a new low
h/t: PamB
You wouldn't think there was a new low where these fanatical Pakistanis would crawl to, but find the new lows they do.You would think that Pakistanis would write their drivel and garbage in their own newspapers in Pakistan and cater to their own brand of loonies and Jew-haters, over there in their own private hell in that continent of Asia, right?!!
Wrong and wrong again on both counts!! This website Pakistan Daily spews the most disgusting paranoia possible. They not only pollute the internet with their dementia, they infiltrate our Canadian newspapers space by keeping such flaming disinformation on the shelves of the Halal grocery stores you see around in Toronto in places like Mississauga, Pickering, Thorncliff East York, Markham and other nooks and corners of Ontario where the growth of the Muslim population seems to warrant them having their own Halal stores. What you see at websites like Pakistan Daily is translated in Urdu for the Urdu speaking Muslims in Canada and this is the kind of rubbish that pollutes the minds of young Canadian Muslim men and grooms them to the kind of mentality we have seen in the Toronto 18.
Pakistani journalists are quick to blame either Israel, the USA or India for every mishap that happens in their country. The USA throwing billions of dollars at Pakistan as aid in fighting the Taliban, has not put a dent in their brotherly feelings towards their terrorist soul-mates and brothers-in-arm. What a waste of money.
The editors at Pakistan Daily are so delusional that anything they read on the internet that they can mold to their paranoid thinking is used by these terrorist breeders. In this piece the editorial states that the Mumbai, India terrorists were casing their targets well before the attacks with the full knowledge and aid of India's police force.

I will stand by my opinion, that instead of going into Afghanistan, NATO should have invaded Pakistan. Pakistan is the hottest trouble spot in the world today and a breeding ground for terrorists, no question about that.
The next engagement to control terrorism will probably be played in Yemen. What a wrong and totally wasted move that would be. The whole thinking world can see that it is Pakistan we have to deal with, only the powers-that-be are blind to that glaring fact sitting on their noses.

With Love to Terrorists, the flower children of our modern times
"The system worked" in the case of the Christmas Day terrorist, according to USA's Secretary of Homeland Security. These are the kind of remarks that will be remembered when Obama and his gang are gone from the White House. Could you have imagined anyone in the White House actually admiring China's Chairman Mao and having the gumption to say so in front of thousands of people? That's exactly what Obama's minions have been saying openly and with gusto. They don't give a damn that only a small percentage of the American populace, albeit a loud screeching one, are receptive to socialism.
It must be frustrating for thinkers like Charles Krauthammer to stick to niceties and not bring down hellfire on these people with the power of their words. So, kudos to Charles Krauthammer once again for proving he can keep his emotions on ice while he touches on a few failings from the never ending quota of mis-steps that Obama and his gang are stacking up every day.

Riddle me one, riddle me two... Answer will further puzzle you
Two men do something nasty on Christmas Day 2009. One does it in New York on terra firma and the other does it in mid-air on a plane. One man brandished a knife in a robbery at a Chinese restaurant. The other man had an exploding device in his underwear and was caught while trying to detonate the device which might have killed nearly 300 passengers.

Prorogation is palatable to most "voting" Canadians
I feel that if one is not a voter, they should just simply shut up. Those of us who consider that voting is our privilege first, and a right second, feel that the PM has done what needed to be done. The bickering in Parliament, even over the passing of the most logical bills, simply because the opposition parties want to prove they are the "opposition" are seen by many as bullying tactics. Delays and more delays because of the bully politics does not make for a good governance of the people.
From the comments to this Globe&Mail's piece, one can see that there are many who are standing staunchly behind the PM and his move. All in all, according to a few dozen of the comments I have read so far, the people are in favor of prorogation and see it as a necessary evil that had to happen because there was no other course of action to take if the PM wanted to govern effectively and efficiently.
Poster thomastoron responds to another who said: "Or get an elected Senate! This is what Harper has been trying to do in order to ENHANCE democracy, not destroy it."
Funny how our Liberal friends, true to their hypocritical heritage, forget how Trudeau and Chretien stacked the upper chamber with friends and neighbors to ensure the party insiders were employed and executing their agenda. Now Harper wants to either have an elected Senate or disband it and our Liberal friends are offended. Its a minority government, call an election if you don't like it. Go figure. thomastoron
And in response to someone who said:"My democratic right was just thrown out the window" Poster Ahkenaten says: No it wasn't. Not any more than the 105 past prorogues. Chretien once prorogued for 4 months. Guess what: Democracy is still here. When session opens again there will likely be another election, and there's your democratic right, right there. Are you going to refuse to show up to vote like in 2006 and then turn around again and blame Harper for a democracy that you don't like?
Ron B Ashton says: Harper meant to reform the Senate all along. That is why he's appointed new Senators who'll agree to refore same Senate.
Our Senate is based upon the British House of Lords! It is anachronistic. Look at Germany for a model of workably democratic senate, Bundesrat, upper chamber. I'd like 20 senators elected from each of 5 regions. We don't have to re invent the wheel. Haper's on the right track.
Canadiana chimes in with: I guess, as usual, the commies are in full force, babbling away, aimlessly, not having a clue what it is that they are babbling about, Harper got the economy rolling, Canadians are gradually going back to work, the Banking system in Canada is world renouned, everything is falling into place, just like the rational Canadians want it to. And the Commies, they're just sitting there, waiting in the inner city for some more handouts, still!
Roy Rogers writes: Love him or hate him, you've got to admit that Harper's a brilliant strategist. He may be the best at this of all the PM's. He's using every available legal means within his power to achieve senate reform, despite being pilloried by the media. I wouldn't play poker against this guy.

UK's population explosion worries
Instead of going through worrisome times a few decades from now, Canada would be well advised to take a lesson from the woes befallen on the UK due to their lax immigration policies of the last decade.
A cross-party group of MPs and peers have called on the main parties to make a manifesto pledge not to allow the UK's population to exceed 70 million. Former minister Frank Field is among those arguing current immigration rates, unless restricted, will impact on public services and quality of life.

Mystery still surrounds the London, Ontario, bomb device
Who was the 17-yr old boy who was taken to the hospital? Was the house up for sale and was he living alone? I hate it when we are kept in the dark. Why not come right out and tell us about the residents of the house, who they were and why they were playing around with explosives. The second link seems to give more info about the family.

“First, I think there are mental health issues here. The other is the power of the Internet. People can access information so easily today in the confines of their own home where they can try things and experiment.”

Sarah Palin: She can and she will
Dianne Linderman is an author of children's books. She is a mom of teenage kids and can see first hand the garbage that is being taught in the schools and the garbage our children are forced to write in order to please the elite and in order to get a passing grade from their, more often than not, leftish professors and teachers. Her take on why the media and more particularly, why the Liberals and others hate Palin, is enlightening and very true.
Even among Conservatives in Canada, there are men who think she is fit to live only in trailer parks and should not open her mouth in civil society. It pains me to see that amongst our own Blogging Tories, men like The Iceman and Russ Campbell seem to dismiss her as a speck of dust without giving a valid reason. The Iceman will spout something like "she has no experience and she is a quitter" and if I remember right, Russ Campbell said something along the same lines and additionally that she was too young to write autobiographies. I am not a regular reader of Campbell's blog so I am not that familiar with his other opinions, but I thought The Iceman was a bright young man with more sense and intelligence than the average 30 year old. Guess I was wrong. He has turned out to be a member of the mindless zombie club "Hate Palin".

When Diane Linderman says:
What most people don’t get about Sarah Palin is that she is smarter than those who despise her. Every time you hear anyone say that she is stupid and she could never be the President of the United States, just understand that she is already a leader in our country, and they never saw it happen. All it would take now is an election to make it official. Now, who are really the stupid ones?I concur wholeheartedly.

The Curse of the Loony Islamists
The damage these blasted lunatics have done to the world of travelling and to the world in general is beyond comprehension. Why would Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Libya, Iran, Iraq and all those oil rich muslim countries not have more of their own blasted aircraft and their own blasted airports in foreign countries which are leased to them far, far away from the city limits, so they can cater to their muslim folks of every race and color.
It is their ideology that bands them together not which country they belong to, just in case the thick-headed lefties don't understand that bit.
Am I being racist or are my survival instincts coming in play here? Are those who have never thought that the muslims are pure menace and nothing else, angels in human form or just plain stupid liars ? Why must we change our way of life just because Goverments of the people in the West have been bringing this evil here to dwell amongst us?
Here is blood boiling news that you can empathize with only if you are a user of airports.

The best thing on TV on Jan 1st was CTV's Corner Gas
Why can't we switch the taxpayers' 1 Billion dollars that we waste on CBC to CTV. They are proving to be better than CBC in every way and if they had the kind of money that the CBC is playing around with, just imagine how much better this station would become. Someone in CTV has a firm grip on reality and does not waste our money putting on shows like "little mosque on the prairie" and getting grumpy looking folks trying to tell us that our PM is going too far with this and not doing enough with that, blah, blah, blah.
After a very long time not watching TV, I sat for hours in front of the idiot box watching the Corner Gas marathon on New Year's day. The show is set in Saskatchewan and each and every character is well played. Brent Butt is the creator of the show and also plays the character Brent Leroy. I guess if you are the creator you can very well keep your own first name. CTV also has the popular "Lost" and were smart enough to bring on the much talked about show "V" the new season of which is supposed to air in a few weeks.
I don't know about you, but after having watched a couple of CBC's "mosque" episodes, I started getting a pukey feeling in my mouth. Indeed of showing immigrants getting assimilated with the rest of Canadians, and the best way to do that is to dress like the rest of us, the show starting showing Canadian women taking on the immigrants' muslim garb. Everything is topsy-turvy in the lefty world of the CBC.
Why can't we stop funding the CBC and instead divert that money to CTV?

Bets are on: There won't be an election this year
I have already placed my bets that we are not going to see an election this year. Lay your bets BTs, what do you think?
.....Common political folklore would have you believe that the PM only gets his jollies from smashing his opponents to smithereens. But what few appreciate is the guy likes to govern and arguably does it well. With Canada hosting three of the world's biggest and most visible events, Olympics, G-20, G-8 between now and July Stephen Harper will have much on his plate. He also takes his ongoing management of economic recovery seriously. Steady governing can be as politically advantageous as kicking sand in your opponent's face. .....
I laughed aloud at this comment to the article from Canada1

Well, if there is an election in the spring, the conservatives do have an enormous advantage.
The conservatives are "superbly" organized, their war room would make Karl Rove full of envy, they are far ahead in $$$$/political contributions, and they have managed to "stifle" all opposition/discussion by proroguing parliament.
So....advantage to the conservatives.
Is that a "good thing"? Not from where I am sitting, but than again, I am a liberal supporter, meaning I have had my a$$ kicked so many times in the not so distant past.....I am starting to feel like Iggy.
Oh well.......
Dead Sea Scrolls
I just got back from the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibition at the Royal Ontario Museum. Tomorrow is the last day they are on display and if you are planning to go to the museum go early, well before 2 pm, or if you want to take advantage of the half price after 4.30 pm, go nicely bundled up. The queue to get in when I was walking out at 5 pm was at least half a mile long. If you are a member, book online and then go to the express counter to check yourself in. You will have to give yourself at least 90 minutes to go through the exhibition.
The opportunity we have been afforded to see these scrolls and the other artifacts of that period is not to be missed. I found these videos on YouTube which should pique your interest some more.

Sarah Palin's name has become a mantra ........ with the Left
It's so lovely to see that the Left are keeping Palin in the news every second of every day and every day of every week and hopefully they will keep doing it endlessly. The more they go after her with their bayonets and sharpened instruments, the better Palin gets in deflecting all weaponry thrown at her. Practice makes perfect and thanks to the Left she is getting a whole lot of practice.
As Sarah Palin's name sells like hot cakes in the coldest regions of the frozen tundra, a lot of unsavory characters are jumping on the bandwagon of "defile Sarah Palin and make some money in the bargain". Now, those creatures of the dark are coming out with a book designed to insult and discredit the future President of the USA.
Gloria Steinem, Sky Jones and others are the vampires I am talking about.

How to "Burn" in the New Year in France
The car burning rampages going on in France, makes me wonder if the car companies have a hand in this. I would not be surprised at all. This project seems to be more effective than the "cash for clunkers" that was Obama's brainchild and this one is a pretty successful one as it has no expiry date. Cars get burned and new cars get bought. Nice way to keep a segment of the economy going... going for the car companies.
In 2008 on New Year's eve, 1147 cars were burned and 2009 New Year's eve saw 1137 cars destroyed. Is it possible that the police authorities in France are not able to control these car destroyers or is there a more sinister involvement here of car manufacturers paying these hooligans to do the dirty?
