Afghanistan: A Tragically Stupid War Comes to a Tragic End

Written by Ron Paul

Sunday’s news reports that the Biden Administration mistakenly killed nine members of one Afghan family, including six children, in “retaliation” for last week’s suicide attack which killed 13 US servicemembers, is a sad and sick epitaph on the 20 year Afghanistan war.

Promising to “get tough” on ISIS, which suddenly re-emerged to take responsibility for the suicide attack, the most expensive military and intelligence apparatus on earth appears to have gotten it wrong. Again.

Interventionists love to pretend they care about girls and women in Afghanistan, but it is in reality a desperate attempt to continue the 20-year US occupation. If we leave, they say, girls and women will be discriminated against by the Taliban.....................

Kabul families say children killed in US drone attack

Ten people from a Kabul neighbourhood killed in US drone attack – Washington claims ISKP fighters were the target.

Kabul, Afghanistan – The Ahmadi and Nejrabi families had packed all their belongings, waiting for word to be escorted to Kabul airport and eventually moved to the United States, but the message Washington sent instead was a rocket into their homes in a Kabul neighbourhood.

The Sunday afternoon drone attack, which the US claimed was conducted on an Islamic State in Khorasan Province (ISKP, or ISIS-K) target, killed 10 members of the families, ranging from two to 40 years old.....

The Never Ending Lies About The War On Afghanistan

https://www.moonofalabama.org/2021/08/the-never-ending-lies-about-the-war-on-afghanistan.html

The U.S. military has lied for 20 years about the war in Afghanistan. Do not expect it to suddenly tell the truth.

Thursday's suicide bombing in Kabul and the following panic killed more than 150 civilians (some 30 of whom were British-Afghan), 28 Taliban fighters and 13 U.S. troops.

Before the attack happened a Taliban spokesperson had told RT that they had warned the U.S. of an imminent ISPK attack.

Repeating Pentagon claims the New York Times describes the attack:

At 5:48 p.m., the bomber, wearing a 25-pound explosive vest under clothing, walked up to the group of Americans who were frisking people hoping to enter the complex. He waited, officials said, until just before he was about to be searched by the American troops. And then he detonated the bomb, which was unusually large for a suicide vest, killing himself and igniting an attack that would leave dozens of people dead, including 13 American service members.

If the suicide bomber was so close to the inner perimeter checkpoint manned by U.S. forces why were so many Taliban, who manned checkpoints at the outer perimeter, killed in the incident?................

US occupation of Afghanistan comes to an end as the last troops leave Kabul
Gunfire heard across Kabul as the Taliban celebrate their victory over the US

https://thecradle.co/Article/News/1504

The 20-year US occupation of Afghanistan came to an end on 30 August as the last three US military transport planes departed Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport.

Across the capital, Taliban members celebrated their victory by firing their guns into the air as the last aircraft took off. According to US Central Command chief General Kenneth McKenzie, every single US service member has now left Afghanistan, ending a war that lasted 19 years, 10 months and 25 days and left over 200,000 people dead.

Just listen to the intensity of the celebratory gunfire in Kabul.

I get the sense the Taliban expended more ammunition on celebration than on actual combat over the past month.............................

US, Turkish troops allegedly responsible for most civilian deaths following Kabul airport attack:

Update:  Blast survivors say US and Turkish troops opened fire on fleeing civilians

Aid workers who examined the bodies of many of the victims from the Kabul terror attack on 26 August claim that a majority of the victims bore bullet wounds that showed they were shot at from above as they were running away from the blast site.

“Some people say the victims were shot from behind by ISIS. However none of them were shot from behind. All bullet holes came from above,” the Afghan aid worker told local media, adding that “all victims were killed by American bullets except maybe 20.”

The death toll from last week’s terror stands at 170................................................

It was 20 years ago today Asia Times published Get Osama! Now! Or Else… The rest is history. Retrospectively, this sounds like news from another galaxy. Before Planet 9/11. Before GWOT (Global War on Terror). Before the Forever Wars. Before the social network era. Before the Russia-China strategic partnership. Before the Dronification of State Violence. Before techno-feudalism. Allow me to get a little personal. I was back in Peshawar – the Islamic Rome, capital of the tribal areas – 20 years ago after a dizzying loop around Pakistan, tribal territory, a botched smuggling op to Kunar, biding time in Tajikistan, arriving by Soviet helicopter in the Panjshir valley, a harrowing road trip to Faizabad and a UN flight that took ages to to arrive.

In the Panjshir, I had finally met “the Lion”: commander Masoud, then plotting a counter-offensive against the Taliban. He told me he was fighting a triad: the Taliban, al-Qaeda and the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate (ISI). Less than three weeks later, he was assassinated – by two al-Qaeda operatives disguised as a camera crew, two days before 9/11.

No one, 20 years ago, could possibly have imagined the subsequent slings and arrows of outrageous (not fortune, but) terror. Two decades, $2.3 trillion and at least 240,000 Afghan deaths later, the Taliban are back where they were: ruling Afghanistan..................
