Paul’s past and speculate about his future as they reveal just how worried the left must be about his chances in 2016.

They are so afraid of this guy, so afraid of him,” Glenn said on radio this morning. “And this is not an op-ed piece… They called him every name under the sun… They have made him into the worst monster… They are terrified of Rand Paul. Today marks the 50th anniversary of Lyndon Johnson’s, “War On Poverty.” No other city throughout our fruited plains embodies the result of the Johnson policies more than Detroit, Michigan. It was after all the chosen recipient of our government’s largess in full. Detroit you see was the official, “Model City.” Known as the Paris of the Midwest in 1964, Detroit was already the very model of urban success that Johnson and his cronies wished to show off as the fruits of their programs. Detroit was a cultural center, with a vibrant collection of museums filled with fine art, historical tidbits, scientific displays. It also had an ample supply of performing arts which included live theater, a symphony orchestra, a ballet company, and more jazz and blues clubs than a stick could have been shaken at. Detroit had every major sport represented at the professional level, as well as several colleges and universities within its borders. Every citizen enjoyed access to some of what at the time were the greatest public parks and recreational facilities in the world. Really, all Detroit needed to be shown off as the great success story for any administration’s policies at that time, was to be left alone to function exactly as it had before any such bright ideas were put into practice, or even thought up.

Here is a Promotional Video put together by Mayor Jerome Cavanagh of Detroit in 1965, paid for by some of the $400 Million gifted to that city as the first participant in Lyndon Johnson’s Model City Program. In it they brag about how centralized planning was going to take them to the future and build an even greater city, which would be even better for all of its residents.



So how did the grand centralized plan work out? I seriously doubt that anyone would consider it a success. Detroit received the largest share of the largess, and every single progressive wish list program was put into practice. Corruption of course followed, as it always does, and the.......... 

WinCo Foods, employer of Grinch the Clerk who hates Christmas

Two little girls who were singing Christmas carols outside the store entrance of a grocery chain in Vancouver, WA., were told to go away by a store employee, citing that it was the store policy not to allow caroling on its property.

...Grocery Store Kicks Girls Off Property For Singing Christmas Carols.  Two young girls who were trying to spread holiday cheer were kicked off of a grocery store’s property for singing Christmas carols.
Ayla Bascom and Kaitlyn Manseau chose the WinCo near their home to give shoppers “a warm fuzzy feeling,” KATU reported.
The girls made a sign stating they didn’t want any money and no one went into the store to file a complaint either. Instead, people stopped outside to listen to them sing popular Christmas carols.
The girls hadn’t even been singing for an hour when they were told they had to leave the property by a WinCo employee......

Soon after the above news brought in a deluge of complaints, the "employee owned" company  issued the following explanation  excuse.

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to respond on behalf of WinCo Foods and its 14,000+ employee owners. As our Spokesperson told the KATU reporter yesterday, the decision to tell these little girls they couldn’t carol on the property was not made by anyone in management – rather it was a clerk that mistakenly thought the activity would violate a company policy.
We have no such policy and this decision was made in error. We apologize to these young ladies and to the mother who accompanied them at the store. They should have been allowed to sing. Indeed, our Spokesperson told the reporter yesterday, before the story aired, that they had been given permission to sing and that they were welcome to do so. We here at WinCo Foods wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Some are not just calling for a boycott — there's about 66,000 people (as of 12:01 a.m. Thursday) who have signed a petition asking the International Olympics Committee to relocate the Games to Vancouver.............

......Vancouver City Councillor Geoff Meggs, however, suggests that the petition isn't practical.

"I can understand the intention, but practically I don’t see how it could happen," he told CP.

"I think lots of people in Vancouver would love to have the Games again, but it’s a question of who would pay for it and how it could possibly be done, and I don’t think we know the answer to either of those questions.".........

American food stamps feed the "real" poor overseas

....NY food stamp recipients are shipping welfare-funded groceries to relatives in Jamaica, Dominican Republic and Haiti.  Food stamps are paying for trans-Atlantic takeout — with New Yorkers using taxpayer-funded benefits to ship food to relatives in Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Welfare recipients are buying groceries with their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards and packing them in giant barrels for the trip overseas, The Post found.
The practice is so common that hundreds of 45- to 55-gallon cardboard and plastic barrels line the walls of supermarkets in almost every Caribbean corner of the city.

The feds say the moveable feasts go against the intent of the $86 billion welfare program for impoverished Americans.
A spokeswoman for the US Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service said welfare benefits are reserved for households that buy and prepare food together. She said states should intervene if people are caught shipping nonperishables abroad.

Michael Tanner, a senior fellow at the Cato Institute, called it just another example of welfare abuse.
“I don’t want food-stamp police to see what people do with their rice and beans, but it’s wrong,” Tanner told The Post. “The purpose of this program is to help Americans who don’t have enough to eat. This is not intended as a form of foreign aid.”
The United States spent $522.7 million on foreign aid to the Caribbean last fiscal year, government data show.

Still, New Yorkers say they ship the food because staples available in the States are superior and less costly than what their families can get abroad........

Walkathon for cancer charity cancelled due to bomb threat

What are the chances that some rotten leftie made the bomb threat thinking this was a kind of pro-life rally  against baby killers?  Relay for Life is actually a walkathon for a cancer charity.  But then,  when have you known the Left to think beyond a second or two?

Halifax Regional Police is currently investigating a bomb threat received from a payphone in Halifax this evening.  

At 7:45 p.m. last night, a 9-1-1 dispatcher received a call from a male who made threats which alluded to the Boston Marathon bombings and indicating that something similar would happen in the area. It was determined the call originated from a payphone at the corner of Spring Garden Road and South Park Street.  
A patrol officer was on scene within approximately two minutes and did not locate anyone near the payphone. A search of the surrounding area, including Public Gardens, Victoria Park and the Wanderers’ Grounds, failed to locate anything suspicious in nature.  

Given that the only similar sporting event happening tonight is the Relay for Life at the Emera Oval at Halifax Common, officers attended the area and advised event organizers of the threat. As a result, event organizers made the decision to shut down the event. Officers remained on-scene as the event participants cleared the area and then searched for any suspicious packages. .....

Mayor of Toronto has a lot to tell Torontonians

CTVNews is miffed because:
Toronto Mayor Rob Ford refused to answer reporters’ questions Wednesday, about a report by U.S. website Gawker that an alleged video of him smoking what appears to be a crack pipe may have disappeared.
At a Tim Hortons to take part in the company’s “Camp Day” fundraising activities, the mayor told reporters that when he heard about the event last week he knew he had to go out and support the “great cause.”
Ford then refused to answer questions about the alleged video and its reported disappearance, saying that he won’t comment further on the allegations and was now “moving forward.”
“I’ve said everything I have to say,” he said.......

HOWEVER,  the mayor had a lot to say in his report about the business of this great city and about the job we have elected him to do, to Torontonians.   Below is the email circular to Torontonians who have signed up to receive them.  Aside from what's below,  I have heard from elsewhere that a 3-story Wal-Mart store will be constructed where Kensington market now stands. The mayor knows that if the elite biggies in high office like our esteemed Minister of Immigration Jason Kenney, who is tone deaf  to screams from Canadians to reduce the immigration numbers, then it is left to the mayor  to do the next best thing...... create avenues for job creation for the masses of immigrants making a beeline to his city and keep as many people from sucking off the govt's sagging boobs.  He's doing a great job and that's the reason the Left hates him to pieces.  Did he actually smoke crack like the Left is insistent he did?  We don't know and most of us  don't really give two figs.

On Tuesday, we had an important Executive Committee meeting where we approved the results of the Shared Services Study. This will help the City of Toronto save up to $65 million each year, without impacting frontline services to Toronto residents.

We also approved a study to look at reducing the size of Council by half, an important issue that I campaigned on. I look forward to seeing the results of this study come back to Executive Committee in the coming months.

This week, I also took a strong stand against the Metrolinx plan to slap billions of dollars in new taxes on the backs of hard working Toronto families. Until the Premier exhausts every other available avenue, I will not support new taxes on residents who are already telling me: "we just can't afford it".

There are many ways to engage the private sector and reduce the cost of building transit. Unfortunately, the Province's plan ignores many of these options and instead takes the easy way out- by passing the burden on to the taxpayer. 

We have shown at Toronto City Hall that there is a better way to do things. Under my leadership, we have reduced the size and cost of government and found savings that we are now investing into our infrastructure needs. 

In just two years, we have reduced our City's planned debt by $800 million. At the same time, we are investing $1.2 billion more on our capital priorities. We have proven that if the political will exists, it can be done.
On Wednesday, we woke up to a major flood on the DVP and across the City. I met with staff and received a full update on the situation. I am very proud to say that the City's response systems worked perfectly and our operational response was excellent.

I also met with our Auditor General, Jeff Griffiths and the CEO of Toronto Community Housing Corporation, Eugene Jones. They briefed me on the excellent news coming out of TCHC, which was presented at Audit Committee earlier in the week.

The City of Toronto is responsible for providing affordable housing to 164,000 tenants.

It is no secret, my administration inherited a complete mess at Toronto Community Housing. Once elected Mayor, I moved quickly to address these problems.

In 2011, the Auditor General reported on procurement practices and employee expenses at TCHC. The City was shocked to learn about rampant misuse of funds, a complete lack of accountability and disgraceful customer service.

While many of the most vulnerable residents in Toronto lived in horrifying conditions, TCHC management threw lavish Christmas parties, took expensive getaways and abused expense accounts. I immediately called for the resignation of the board and removal of the CEO.

Folks, I am so proud to say that Toronto Community Housing is now turning the corner. Today, we have a new board of directors and senior management team. TCHC is now committed to customer service excellence, accountability, transparency and running as efficiently and effectively as possible. Every employee knows their role and is held accountable for it.

By changing procurement practices we have been able to find $5.4 million in annual savings, with much more to come. By transferring the TCHC fleet of vehicles to the City's Fleet Services, we have been able to save $2.6 million and by holding employees accountable for their expenses, we are saving $1 million every year.

At the same time, we are investing every available penny to pay down the $751 million repair backlog we inherited, and improve the living conditions of our tenants. This is exactly what I was elected to do.

On Friday, I also met with Stephen Buckley, the General Manager of Transportation Services, to deal with structural issues staff identified with respect to the Dufferin Street Bridge.
We moved quickly to come up with a plan of action to address these issues while keeping residents safe and minimizing the impact on traffic.

The bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic for 18 months beginning on June 12. During construction of the temporary bridge, access will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists.

I'm also happy to announce that I have hired four new team members this week. They are a talented group who are ready to work hard on the priorities of my administration.

A Timeline of Tyranny ... OR how the IRS and FBI targeted patriotic Americans on behalf of the Left

Jeffrey Lord writing at the American Spectator gives a timeline of the dirty deeds committed by not only the IRS on behalf of the Left,  but the dirty deeds committed by the FBI as well.  The timeline stretches from June 2008 to the present   Worth reading in full.  I found it fascinating that all this tyranny was running rampant  and those affected didn't  identity it as such.  How many more victims of the Left are out there?

One of the horror stories that have emerged in the last year is the tale of Idaho businessman Frank VanderSloot, the million-dollar donor to the Romney campaign. Not only did a onetime investigator for Senate Democrats turn up in Idaho rummaging through the local courthouse for damaging information about VanderSloot’s divorce, VanderSloot quickly found himself targeted by the IRS.

The VanderSloot story, we now know, was not an accident. Some sort of Ripley’s Believe-It-Or-Not twist of fate. What was happening to Frank VanderSloot has been happening all over America in the last five years. In one form or another, almost 500 conservative groups were targeted by the IRS and other federal government agencies. Others, including prominent television and radio hosts, have been targeted for removal from the airwaves by leftist groups seeking to use the combined power of government and pressure on advertisers.........
.....June 5, 2008: The IRS is contacted by the leftist group Catholics United to “launch a probe of the Catholic League.” The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, headed by Bill Donohue, is seen by Catholic leftists as conservative. Donohue says:.....
August 7, 2008: The New York Times publishes a story (hat tip to the Wall Street Journal’s Kim Strassel) celebrating a left-wing group of Obama supporters called “Accountable America.” The Times says the group will be sending “warning” letters to “10,000 of the biggest donors to Republican candidates and causes.” The purpose, wrote the liberal paper, is to create “a chilling effect that will dry up contributions.” The pro-Obama group’s spokesman said the leftist group was “going for the jugular.”

Part Two:
Two more unlikely people it would be hard to imagine.
One consorts with a man who heads a country the State Department describes as having “repeatedly provided support for acts of international terrorism.” This man is also the half brother of….the President of the United States.
The other? The other is a woman who with her husband built a small manufacturing business in Houston and decided to start a couple of local Tea Parties.

And whom does the IRS target? Whom does the FBI Domestic Terrorist Unit target?
That’s right, the woman in Houston. The woman who is not related to the President of the United States. The woman who has zero connections to terrorists.
And Catherine Engelbrecht was far from alone.

Earlier this week we wrote up Part One of what was termed a timeline of tyranny — “The VanderSlooting of America.” A timeline that focuses not just on the Treasury IG report of IRS abuses or the birth of the Tea Party and the struggle ignited by battles over massive government spending and health care but expands outward to illustrate the mindset of the Left at work. January, 2011: The FBI’s Domestic Terrorist Unit has more questions for Catherine Engelbrecht, the co-founder with husband Bryan of Engelbrecht Manufacturing. The questions are about an attendee at one of Engelbrecht’s two Tea party groups, the King Street Patriots. The first contact from the FBI came in December of 2010. Engelbrecht had filed for tax exempt status for her Tea party groups — True the Vote and the King Street Patriots — in July of 2010. 
January, 2011: The IRS audits the 2008 and 2009 Engelbrecht Enterprises tax returns..........

Fire and Fury

From TheIndependentUK comes a detailed story about the riots in Sweden giving additional  collaboration that the knife brandisher died long before the riots started but just like what the Obama administration did with the Benghazi fiasco,  the authorities in Sweden  too thought it  best to blame the riots not on the rioters themselves but on the "mishap" of their own police which led to spontaneous rioting out of anger and frustration.....and of course the inefficient media writes whatever is easily obtained without delving any further into the statements given by "sources" which sources are most likely  the rioting immigrants themselves.

Worth reading Tom Peck's article in full.  Another thing that comes to light from this article is that the activists from the Left wing party  instigated the initial riots .... so this is something that was planned and executed  by white leftish Swedes using  Muslim immigrants who are ever ready to riot and create havoc  at the slightest excuse.

....Two weeks ago, news emerged of the death of a 68 year old Portuguese immigrant man, who had been shot in his Husby apartment by police, then taken to hospital, where he died. He had taken a woman hostage, so the story went, and had been waving a machete at police. But Megafonen, a group that campaigns for social change in the suburbs, published pictures of a body bag being removed from the man’s apartment, and driven away in a car. Not an ambulance, a car. It would later emerge that the so-called hostage was in fact the dead man’s wife of 30 years, and according to his brother-in-law, he had been waving a kitchen knife, not a machete, to ward off a gang of youths who had been harassing him and his wife. When the police knocked on the door, the wife told the brother-in-law, the elderly man mistook the knocks for further harassment, shouted at them, probably a little threateningly, and was shot dead.

The left wing activists who police are now actively pursuing for their role in the rioting, say that when that version of events hit the streets it summoned forth years of resentment against police brutality - an all too consistent complaint in the suburbs where not many white Swedish people live anymore - and against high unemployment, growing inequality, dwindling opportunities. But now the unrest has spread to the western and the southern suburbs, and to other cities - Malmö, Gothenburg, Örebro - where schools, restaurants, and police stations have been set on fire, it is decidedly dubious whether any of the original motivations remain, having been overtaken by the simple criminality of deindividuated men in masks, who enjoy it and think they can get away with it.

So is there something rotten in the state of Sweden? The scale of the riots cannot be compared to Paris in 2005 or to London two years ago, which eventually took hold far outside the capital. No one has been killed, and almost no one injured. The little suburb of Husby is a pretty place, built for rich white Swedes who have almost all left. It is incomparable to Tottenham’s Broadwater Farm estate, the ground zero of the London riots...........

Gawker hawking titbits from Canada instead of reporting the scandals aplenty in their own country.  Checking the huge splinter sticking out a mile from one's own eyes is ignored while devoting full time resources and efforts to picking the speck from their neighbour's eyes.  Ugh !

It's a crime to smoke crack but it may also be illegal to try to sell a video of it for profit.
"If such a sale was done lawfully, GST would have to be paid on such a transaction," said Toronto crime specialist Ross McLean.
But even without that, the former Toronto police officer said, the on-line campaign to purchase the alleged Mayor Rob Ford "crack" video from suspected drug world figures is rife with legal intrigue and law enforcement concerns.
"Areas in the Criminal Code that stand out as questionable are in the proceeds of crime and money laundering sections," said McLean. "This is uncharted water for law enforcement and the Crown's office, but they have laws to work with and will be reviewing them."
It has been several days since the story broke about the video of the mayor allegedly smoking crack, more than $70,000 has been raised to buy it and reporters spent Victoria Day weekend stalking the guy.
It's not Alice in Wonderland, The Osbournes, Kardashians, Truman Show or Celebrity Rehab.
It's Toronto.
Meanwhile, Ford, sources say, will make a statement Tuesday which will either add heat to the flame or throw on some water.....

BUT according to Natalie Alcoba of National Post the mayor got through his day (Tuesday May 21) without uttering a word on the allegations.
Despite fresh pleas from his allies, Mayor Rob Ford left work behind the wheel of his Cadillac Escalade Tuesday afternoon without uttering a word related to his alleged crack cocaine use that has made headlines around the world.
A report that he would be making a statement sparked frenzied media attention at city hall, where the mayor was confronted by reporters on several occasions: upon his arrival, following a city council meeting on a casino, and then leaving the parking garage. He seemed to speed up between two flanks of television cameras as he exited the lot.
In the end, the only public comments he made centred on his newfound opposition to a downtown casino and a vow to “continue to fight for the taxpayer.”............

Today, May 22, Christina Commisso of CTVNews tells us that:
....Toronto councillor and deputy mayor Doug Holyday   says Rob Ford has been advised by lawyers not to comment on unsubstantiated reports of an alleged video recording that shows the mayor using drugs and making offensive remarks.
Ford has said very little about the issue since reports were published late last week, only calling the allegations “ridiculous.”....

Why there was no compassion from the  Left for Ford's "disease",  the Left went at her with hammer and tongs in the comments.  They completely missed the point she was making about addiction to crack cocaine  not being a disease as the Left insists it is, but a human failing which requires self control and not government subsidies.  They also  missed her other point (or they didn't and hated her for it) that the Left's hypocrisy was showing.

....Maybe now that Rob Ford has allegedly been caught  on tape smoking crack cocaine, we can finally dispense with the nonsense that drug use is a disease. It’s not, it’s a choice.

Funny how quickly, though, lefties who use that excuse for beautiful losers they admire, or for the downtrodden on their city streets, have abandoned their hackneyed mantra when a person they despise is a user.

So, thank you, Mayor Ford. According to your enemies, you are not a victim or someone suffering from a disease. Here’s hoping that the ridiculous claim that every alcoholic and drug addict is not unlike someone with renal failure or cancer is put to rest.

But here’s also hoping that this story will expose the hypocrisy, viciousness and lack of compassion of those elites who have been out to first ensure Ford was not elected Toronto’s mayor, and then doing everything in their power to discredit him and to use the courts to remove him from office because they didn’t like the outcome.

On Thursday, the U.S. website Gawker posted a report by John Cook, who alleges that he saw a cellphone video of Ford smoking from a glass pipe what a Toronto drug dealer alleges is crack cocaine.

The drug dealer has been shopping the video around to media outlets, initially for $100,000, and now $200,000.....

These people are not like the Liberals, who while condescending to conservatives did not hate us. These left-wingers really do hate us. That is why in the Congress not much in the way of compromise can be achieved. Sometime back I dined on Capitol Hill with a senator who had been around some three decades. He said it with telling precision, “Up here the two sides almost never meet.” The left hates us.

I personally discovered this back in the Clinton days. A friend probably of the moderate left came banging into my gym........

....At least 14 people were injured, many of them stabbed, at a northwest Harris County college on Tuesday, according to paramedics.

Cy-Fair volunteer firefighters said they were called out to a stabbing at Lone Star College, 9191 Barker Cypress Road, about 11:20 a.m. College officials said the incident happened at the health science building.
Paramedics said at least four of the victims were being to Memorial Hermann Hospital by helicopter. Eight people were transported by ambulances and two refused to go to a hospital, EMS officials said. Two of the victims were in critical condition and four were in fair condition. Many of the victims were stabbed in their cheeks, shoulders and/or necks.

College officials have not said if the victims were students, staff or both. Deputies said the victims appeared to be randomly targeted.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said a 21-year-old suspect, a current student at the college, was taken into custody. Deputies previously said they were searching for a second suspect, but investigators said they believe a single suspect was running from building to building.
Investigators said a student tackled the suspect and that helped them capture the man...........

A 76-year-old Auburn man is facing charges after killing a bear in his backyard.
Richard Ahlstrand told WBZ-TV he was stocking his bird feeder Friday night when a bear about seven feet tall and 300-to-400 pounds started chasing him.
That’s when he turned his shotgun on the bear.



“I didn’t have time to aim through the sights, but I aimed in the direction of the head on this thing and I pulled the trigger before it got to me.  It just dropped,” he said.
Ahlstrand said he was carrying the shotgun Friday night because he thought he saw the bear in his yard Thursday.
“If that ever jumped on me, I wouldn’t even be here right know, I don’t think.  I know it was going to seriously maul me,” he said.
Ahlstrand is now charged with illegally killing a bear, illegally baiting a bear, illegal possession of a firearm and failing to secure a weapon.
Authorities believed the female bear had cubs.  Ahlstrand says he feels bad about that, but he believes he being unfairly labeled.
“They got me set up now like I’m some kind of murderer.  And then the environmental guy told me ‘You should have called me instead of shooting it.’  What was I going to do, say ‘Mister Bear would excuse me please while I go make a phone call?’”

Police don’t believe the bear was a threat to people.
