At a Tim Hortons to take part in the company’s “Camp Day” fundraising activities, the mayor told reporters that when he heard about the event last week he knew he had to go out and support the “great cause.”
Ford then refused to answer questions about the alleged video and its reported disappearance, saying that he won’t comment further on the allegations and was now “moving forward.”
“I’ve said everything I have to say,” he said.......
HOWEVER, the mayor had a lot to say in his report about the business of this great city and about the job we have elected him to do, to Torontonians. Below is the email circular to Torontonians who have signed up to receive them. Aside from what's below, I have heard from elsewhere that a 3-story Wal-Mart store will be constructed where Kensington market now stands. The mayor knows that if the elite biggies in high office like our esteemed Minister of Immigration Jason Kenney, who is tone deaf to screams from Canadians to reduce the immigration numbers, then it is left to the mayor to do the next best thing...... create avenues for job creation for the masses of immigrants making a beeline to his city and keep as many people from sucking off the govt's sagging boobs. He's doing a great job and that's the reason the Left hates him to pieces. Did he actually smoke crack like the Left is insistent he did? We don't know and most of us don't really give two figs.

On Tuesday, we had an important Executive Committee meeting where we approved the results of the Shared Services Study. This will help the City of Toronto save up to $65 million each year, without impacting frontline services to Toronto residents.
We also approved a study to look at reducing the size of Council by half, an important issue that I campaigned on. I look forward to seeing the results of this study come back to Executive Committee in the coming months.
This week, I also took a strong stand against the Metrolinx plan to slap billions of dollars in new taxes on the backs of hard working Toronto families. Until the Premier exhausts every other available avenue, I will not support new taxes on residents who are already telling me: "we just can't afford it".
There are many ways to engage the private sector and reduce the cost of building transit. Unfortunately, the Province's plan ignores many of these options and instead takes the easy way out- by passing the burden on to the taxpayer.
We have shown at Toronto City Hall that there is a better way to do things. Under my leadership, we have reduced the size and cost of government and found savings that we are now investing into our infrastructure needs.
In just two years, we have reduced our City's planned debt by $800 million. At the same time, we are investing $1.2 billion more on our capital priorities. We have proven that if the political will exists, it can be done.
On Wednesday, we woke up to a major flood on the DVP and across the City. I met with staff and received a full update on the situation. I am very proud to say that the City's response systems worked perfectly and our operational response was excellent.
I also met with our Auditor General, Jeff Griffiths and the CEO of Toronto Community Housing Corporation, Eugene Jones. They briefed me on the excellent news coming out of TCHC, which was presented at Audit Committee earlier in the week.
The City of Toronto is responsible for providing affordable housing to 164,000 tenants.
It is no secret, my administration inherited a complete mess at Toronto Community Housing. Once elected Mayor, I moved quickly to address these problems.
In 2011, the Auditor General reported on procurement practices and employee expenses at TCHC. The City was shocked to learn about rampant misuse of funds, a complete lack of accountability and disgraceful customer service.
While many of the most vulnerable residents in Toronto lived in horrifying conditions, TCHC management threw lavish Christmas parties, took expensive getaways and abused expense accounts. I immediately called for the resignation of the board and removal of the CEO.
Folks, I am so proud to say that Toronto Community Housing is now turning the corner. Today, we have a new board of directors and senior management team. TCHC is now committed to customer service excellence, accountability, transparency and running as efficiently and effectively as possible. Every employee knows their role and is held accountable for it.
By changing procurement practices we have been able to find $5.4 million in annual savings, with much more to come. By transferring the TCHC fleet of vehicles to the City's Fleet Services, we have been able to save $2.6 million and by holding employees accountable for their expenses, we are saving $1 million every year.
At the same time, we are investing every available penny to pay down the $751 million repair backlog we inherited, and improve the living conditions of our tenants. This is exactly what I was elected to do.
On Friday, I also met with Stephen Buckley, the General Manager of Transportation Services, to deal with structural issues staff identified with respect to the Dufferin Street Bridge.
We moved quickly to come up with a plan of action to address these issues while keeping residents safe and minimizing the impact on traffic.
The bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic for 18 months beginning on June 12. During construction of the temporary bridge, access will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists.
I'm also happy to announce that I have hired four new team members this week. They are a talented group who are ready to work hard on the priorities of my administration.

Cairo court sentenced 43 Egyptian and foreign NGO staff to jail terms of up to five years for working illegally, sparking outrage and raising fears for the future of civil society.
The sentences follow trials that came in the wake of 2011 raids on the offices of foreign civil society groups, many of which had operated without licences under ousted president Hosni Mubarak but which the new authorities deemed were receiving funds illicitly.
The criminal court sentenced 27 defendants in absentia to five years.
Five defendants who were present in the country, including one American, were sentenced to two years behind bars and ordered to pay a fine of 1,000 Egyptian pounds (almost $145).
The remaining 11 were each given one-year suspended sentences.
The court also ordered the permanent closure of the branches of the NGOs where the staffers worked.
These include US-based Freedom House, the International Republican Institute and the National Democratic Institute, as well as Germany's Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
The defendants, who were charged with receiving illicit foreign funds and operating without a licence, have said they will appeal.
The verdict caused an outcry abroad, with US Secretary of State John Kerry denouncing it as "politically motivated".
"This decision runs contrary to the universal principle of freedom of association and is incompatible with the transition to democracy," he said in a statement.
Stressing the vital role such groups played in reinforcing democracy, he added: "I urge the government of Egypt to work with civic groups as they respond to the Egyptian people's aspirations for democracy as guaranteed in Egypt's new constitution."
Germany also expressed alarm.
"We are outraged and deeply concerned over the stiff judgements against staff of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in Cairo and the ordered closure of the office," Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said.
"The action by the Egyptian justice is alarming. It weakens civil society as an important pillar of democracy in a new democratic Egypt."...............

“Once his gastroenteritis caused him unable to eat for two weeks, and he found blood in stools and in urine,” Morning Star News said she wrote. “The prison officials were very cruel to him, never giving him any medical care for these last 10 years and more.”
Morning Star News said Chinese officials denied that Pastor Gong was tortured when Amnesty International issued an appeal for him in June 2003. That was after his family learned that he had been tortured so badly in Jingzhou prison that he was unable to leave his bed for two weeks.
China Ministries International is an international mission organization dedicated to proclaiming Christ among Chinese people and strengthening the country's church.......

Immigration department officials did not tell the federal minister for eight months that an Egyptian asylum seeker was a convicted jihadist terrorist.
The man arrived in Australia on an asylum seeker boat with his family on May 9 last year.
A member of Egyptian Islamic Jihad – linked to al-Qaeda – the unnamed man was convicted in 1999 of premeditated murder, destruction of property, firearm and explosives offences and membership of a terrorist group.
In August last year, intelligence agency ASIO told the immigration department about the man.

Trying to understand the Middle East melt down

... For the first two years of the Syrian civil war foreign leaders regularly predicted that Bashar al-Assad’s government would fall any day. In November 2011, King Abdullah of Jordan said that the chances of Assad’s surviving were so slim he ought to step down. In December last year, Anders Rasmussen, the Nato secretary general, said: ‘I think the regime in Damascus is approaching collapse.’ Even the Russian Foreign Ministry – which generally defends Assad – has at times made similar claims. Some of these statements were designed to demoralise Assad’s supporters by making his overthrow seem inevitable. But in many cases outsiders genuinely believed that the end was just round the corner. The rebels kept claiming successes, and the claims were undiscriminatingly accepted......
...Meanwhile, foreign countries are gaining influence with the help of local proxies, and in so doing the rebels’ supporters are repeating the mistake Washington made ten years ago in Iraq. In the heady days after the fall of Saddam, the Americans announced that Iran and Syria were the next targets for regime change. This was largely ill-informed hubris, but the threat was real enough for the Syrians and Iranians to decide that in order to stop the Americans acting against them they had to stop the US stabilising its occupation of Iraq and lent their support to all of America’s opponents regardless of whether they were Shia or Sunni.....
....When the US invaded Iraq in 2003, it changed the overall balance of power and destabilised every country in the region. The same thing is happening again, except that the impact of the Syrian war is likely to be less easily contained. Already the frontier dividing the western deserts of Iraq from the eastern deserts of Syria is ceasing to have any physical reality. In April, al-Qaida in Iraq embarrassed the rebels’ Western supporters by revealing that it had founded, reinforced with experienced fighters and devoted half its budget to supporting al-Nusra, militarily the most effective rebel group. When Syrian soldiers fled into Iraq in March they were ambushed by al-Qaida and 48 of them were killed before they could return to Syrian territory.
.....There is virtually no state in the region that hasn’t got some stake in the conflict. Jordan, though nervous of a jihadi victory in Syria, is allowing arms shipments from Saudi Arabia to reach rebels in southern Syria by road. Qatar has reportedly spent $3 billion on supporting the rebels over the last two years and has offered $50,000 to every Syrian army defector and his family. In co-ordination with the CIA it has sent seventy military flights to Turkey with arms and equipment for the insurgents. The Tunisian government says that eight hundred Tunisians are fighting on the rebel side but security sources are quoted as saying the real figure is closer to two thousand. Moaz al-Khatib, the outgoing president of the Syrian National Coalition, which supposedly represents the opposition, recently resigned, declaring as he did so that the group was controlled by outside powers – i.e. Saudi Arabia and Qatar. ‘The people inside Syria,’ he said, ‘have lost the ability to decide their own fate. I have become only a means to sign some papers while hands from different parties want to decide on behalf of the Syrians.’.....

Sweden lectures other EU countries over "welfare scaremongering"

The UK, Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands demanded the topic was put on the EU's agenda, co-signing a letter to the Council of the European Union that claimed EU migrants were causing "considerable strain" on their welfare systems, health care and schools.
They wrote that the free movement directive cannot be unconditional, and added that they want the right to deny new EU citizens the right to social benefits if they have never been employed or paid taxes in their new country.
However, Sweden's Migration Minister Tobias Billström was unimpressed by the contents of the letter.
"I think there's some scaremongering here which we in the Swedish government are not taking part in," he told the TT news agency..........

In Khorasan, they are known as Talimiyya and Melahide as well as Maymuniyya after Qarmat’s brother Maymun. In Egypt, they are called Ubeidiyyun after the famous Ubeid, while in Damascus they take the names of Nusayri, Druze and Tayamine. They are known as Baha’is in Palestine, as Bohra and Ismailis in India, as Yamiyya in Yemen, as Alevis in Kurdistan, as Bektashi and Qizilbash among Turks, and as Babiyye in Persia,” Akseki writes.
The book describes Alevis as “ill-intentioned and diabolical,” and says that “marriages with them are not permissible; they are worse heretics even than Jews and Christians since eating the meat they cook is forbidden.”
Alevis are then portrayed as people indulging in sexual debauchery: “When dark falls in the evening, glasses start to make the rounds and heads heat up. As flesh begins to crave, all members of that accursed sect bring in their wives. Entering from all doors, the women join the men, blow out the candles and grab whoever they come across first.”
It is a matter of great interest how the Turkish judiciary will handle this case of hate speech, just weeks after musician Fazil Say and writer Sevan Nisanyan received jail sentences for insulting the religious values of Sunnis in Turkey........
........Similarly, in a case filed by Alevi citizen Hasan Zengin, the ECHR condemned Turkey on grounds that religion classes in schools teach only Sunni Islam and that Alevi students are barred from seeking exemption from those classes. The government has made no move to scrap the compulsory religion classes in line with the ruling.
In the reforms the government has so far introduced, the “Alevi problem” has benefited the least. The government has been less tolerant toward demands for the recognition of Alevi identity and freedom of worship even when compared to its attitude towards non-Muslim minorities............

City of Izmir, Turkey
Protests have spread to more than 40 cities of Turkey. I saw some vids from the protests in Izmir last night showing unbelievable police brutality and knew things would escalate in that city because of it. I saw police yanking women by their hair and flinging them to the ground. I saw a man kicked, while he was down, by more than a dozen police. One vid showed police water jets pushing people almost over the banks into the sea. This morning I am unable to find any one of those three, however, the one below shows the outpouring of anger at the police bullies.

The manager of the hotel informed us that due to “consultations with the security services” in preparation for a big conference taking place next week, all the rooms had been cancelled.
When asked if Jones and his crew were considered a “security risk,” the hotel manager responded “I’m not implying that,” suggesting that the rooms were cancelled simply because Bilderberg ordered the Grove to do so...........
The Bilderberg Group ordered a hotel at which journalists from Infowars were set to stay to cover the organization’s secretive confab next week to cancel the reservations in an unprecedented attempt to block freedom of the press.
Alex Jones and his reporters all received phone calls from the Grove Hotel in Watford, England today informing them that their reservations – which ran until the day before Bilderberg are set to meet in the same location – had been cancelled.
The manager of the hotel informed us that due to “consultations with the security services” in preparation for a big conference taking place next week, all the rooms had been cancelled.
When asked if Jones and his crew were considered a “security risk,” the hotel manager responded “I’m not implying that,” suggesting that the rooms were cancelled simply because Bilderberg ordered the Grove to do so...........

The "thinking" Muslims of Canada
Yes, we do have them. Their voices might be drowned out by the fanatical voices of the Khomeini lovers and Saudi Arabia's wahhabism followers, but we do have them and here's wishing that their numbers increase and multiply. These groups of well-meaning Muslims have taken the first baby steps in encouraging anybody and everybody to come together to discuss differences of opinion in civilized settings without resorting to insults and threats.

A reader of this blog who is totally against vaccines sent me the vid below after my post on the Judge John Deed TV episode. Man-O-man, I like differing opinions and different viewpoints. I know that genetically modified foods are shunned by many but organic foods too can give you a whole new batch of ills. I had a laugh towards the tail end of the vid where a couple of teens are asking what the heck Monsanto is because I was thinking the same thing. The teens are told that all the fast food they eat is nothing but Monsanto and it will kill them. Hahahahahahahah.
Please...dear video sender, I am not laughing at your concerns nor your video but at the thought that such advice will not stop millions of people like me from eating junk food with relish. I spent several hours this morning reading the pros and cons of Monsanto's products and I thank you for making me aware of something I didn't know of before today.

It all started in 2002, but the world has been hearing of their atrocities only of late because the inefficient Nigerian govt. finds itself unable to tackle the trouble at this late stage in the game. ....Shocking revelation emerged on Saturday from camps of the Boko Haram sect, following the discovery of packs of unused condoms by the Nigerian Military. Discovered also were used condoms.
Items such as syringes and narcotic drugs believed to have been used by the insurgents were also found in their camps.
A statement by the Director, Defence Information, Brig-General Chris Olukolade entitled, ‘Life in Terrorists Camp: Condoms Everywhere’ reads:
“More of the dirty sides of the insurgents’ life style are being revealed as troops continue to stumble on strange and bizarre objects such as several used and unused condoms as well as charms of various shapes seen in the captured terrorists’ camps.
“Other common items are syringes, test tubes and hand gloves usually found in the rubbles of most of the destroyed camps.
“Apart from chemicals and materials for producing Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) narcotics of all types are also found to be common features as troops combed through camps in Sambisa forest, New Marte, and others......

One of the children also revealed that he was usually sent to steal clothes from houses for use by insurgents........
.....As for the children, we are going to hand them over to the Ministry of Women Affairs and social welfare. We will advertise for their parents to come and claim them after they might have signed a written undertaking to inculcate good behaviour and to enroll them in schools.”
Gusau added: “The governor also said for each released child that is enrolled in school, their parents would get N10, 000 for 30 days of uninterrupted stay in school.........

Unidentified gunmen on Saturday attacked the central prison in Niger's capital, opening fire on the guards and killing at least two people, according to a government spokesman and a witness who was 200 meters (yards) from the prison when the incident occurred. It was not immediately clear if the assailants had come from inside or outside the jail.
Two security guards were killed and a third was gravely wounded, said Niger government spokesman Marou Amadou. He said the attackers had been captured and the incident is being investigated.
"There are two versions of what happened, and right now we think it's more likely that they came from inside the jail," Amadou said by telephone. "These are people who are wanted for terrorism. We do not know how they were able to arm themselves inside the prison, and how they were able to get out to attack the guards. We have two dead guards already and one seriously wounded," he said.........

Life in a Jar .... The Irena Sendler project
Received the following via email distribution:
During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist. She had an ulterior motive.
Irena smuggled Jewish infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried.
She also carried a burlap sack in the back of her truck, for larger kids.
Irena kept a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto.
The soldiers, of course, wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.
During her time of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants.
Ultimately, she was caught, however, and the Nazi's broke both of her legs and arms and beat her severely.
Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she had smuggled out, In a glass jar that she buried under a tree in her back yard.
After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived and tried to reunite the family.
Most had been gassed. Those kids she helped got placed into foster family homes or adopted.
In 2007 Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize. She was not selected.

Later another politician, Barack Obama, won for his work as a community organizer for ACORN.

Oh lovely! Turkey's Syria just starting?
Wunderbar! This will teach that islamist honcho there to stop interfering in neighbouring countries at the command of his Sunni overlord, Saudi Arabia. The riots and protests in Istanbul are continuing for the second day. According to the internet reports, the protests started because a heavyily forested park was being cleared to make way for the development of a mall. The Left didn't want that for whatever reason (did they ever want one?) and held a sit-down in the area from Monday, preventing the bulldozing and tree-cutting. The courts ordered the work to be halted and a review was called but the protesters were not appeased with that and continued with protesting against other stuff in other areas. Two days ago the islamist honcho's minions moved in with tear gas and water cannons which enraged others ... including non-lefties. All of a sudden, this is not about cutting down trees but translates into something bigger ... their hatred for the islamic strictures imposed on the Turks like banning sale of alcohol and arresting couples for kissing in public or harassing females for wearing modern attire. Turks don't like being pulled into the cavemen era from the 21st century lifestyle they had before the islamists took over the government. Good for them !!

About the same time a city bus driver in Istanbul had violently kicked out a young couple who had kissed during the journey. The angry driver had shouted after them: “This is not a sex bus!” Apparently, the pious Muslim driver thought babies were born after their parents kissed each other.
To protest against the incident, a group of maverick youths, all couples, launched a campaign to collectively take a bus on the same route and start kissing each other spontaneously. The “collective kissing protest” on the bus sparked another protest campaign – this time from a group of students from imam schools who vowed that “they would not allow sex on the street.”
Last week, when about 200 Turks held a mass kissing protest at an Ankara subway station in response to a public announcement at the same station that had requested passengers “to behave morally,” conservative religious groups attacked them with machetes, shouted religious slogans and injured some of the protestors. The metro incident in Ankara is merely a more violent repetition of the “sex bus affair” in Istanbul. Apparently, with the newfound state/police power they arrogantly rely on, the conservative Turks will never learn to mind their own business.
What are the core values conservative Muslims defend? Human dignity and morals? In a way. In an extremely corrupted way. The same groups of “sensitive Muslims” that are always on alert to get organized, beat and perhaps even kill kissing couples have never been seen to protest when, for instance, nearly 80,000 women faced domestic violence in the 18 months to Aug. 2011 alone; or when violence against women rose 1,400 percent during their beloved Islamist government’s first seven years in power. They never protested when men raped 102 women and 59 underage girls in 2011 alone......
