History is History .... and only the extremely stupid or totally uneducated will want to erase even a sentence from what's written about the past, no matter whether the deeds of the past were good or evil.
 
IMO, even Nazi symbols should not be banned. They should rightly incite our criticism and revulsion but not our calls to ban them.  The "bad" deeds of the past which were not considered to be "bad" at those times, should serve as history lessons for the deeds of today and make us wonder if future societies of planet Earth might look on our present day "normalcy" as wholly unacceptable to them. For example, the  LGBTs are considered a normal factor of life in most societies of our present day world.  How would you like it if  you looked into the future and saw their rainbow flags and they themselves being ostracized?   Think people, THINK for goodness sake!!!!

A. The first time I went to North Korea, I wasn’t allowed to see much (or photograph much) in the year 2000. Consequently, I thought that there was little life there. Like it was all a facade. Over the years, while working as a photographer, I’ve expanded my view, and I’ve come to see that there are some universals in the world. While the geopolitics and saber-rattling goes on, there are real people, living lives, trying to get by within that system. If I can, I try to take people on that same journey with my photography....

Q. Scott Krenz: Did you get a sense, either directly or indirectly, about what the people of North Korea wanted to tell you about their country and what they wanted the rest of the world to know about them?

A. North Koreans do want to show their best side, of course. They want to be seen as strong, self-reliant, and modern. I think they are also reacting to preconceptions outsiders have of them. As an outside photographer, I often explain that what I’m looking for are the most real, normal, even mundane aspects of life rather than the extremes. I also explain that my instinct is to be critical and have a point of view. This ongoing conversation has been the most interesting and gratifying part of my time there.....

.....Q. Mathias Dalgaard: How do the locals feel about getting photographed? Assuming most of them aren’t used to cameras.

A. Surprisingly, many North Koreans (and not only in the capital) have and use cameras, very often on their mobile phones......

.....Q. Pete Lee: In your view, what is a typical North Korean child’s aspiration? What would constitute a “North Korean Dream” for the majority of the people who live there?

A. Some are likely the same as American children’s aspirations — safety, love, etc. I think American children are mostly taught to strive to be independent, unique and ambitious. I think North Korean children are taught to be unselfish, work hard, and contribute strongly to the greater good within the context of the regime and community.....

I can't help but make a comparison here of the similarities between  Banks and Socialist govts.  Socialist govts give free money to make people addicted to their kind of governance and  Banks  make addicts out of borrowers by lending them money at almost no interest thus getting a larger segment of the population taking to the concept of low interest fees for borrowed money to spend on things they don't even need.

Venezuela protests and what's behind the food shortages

How strange it is isn't it that the USA goes to far away countries to bring "democracy" to those lands that don't even have the same religious practices as does most of the American public,  but when there's a nation right there in their backward whose citizens are crying out for some help, like the people in Venezuela which is  a communist country,  their cries are blatantly ignored. 

I wonder why the USA is not twisting the arm of the communist leader Nicolas Maduro and demanding to know why all the oil revenue is mismanaged and people have to wait in lines for several hours to lay their hands on a bag of flour or a packet of rice?  Why not entice the Venezuelan govt. to get out of the socialist mode and into a free trade open market?

Battling food shortages, the government is rolling out a new ID system that is either a grocery loyalty card with extra muscle or the most dramatic step yet toward rationing in Venezuela, depending on who is describing it.

President Nicolas Maduro's administration says the cards to track families' purchases will foil people who stock up on groceries at subsidized prices and then illegally resell them for several times the amount. Critics say it's another sign the oil-rich Venezuelan economy is headed toward Cuba-style dysfunction.



Registration began Tuesday at more than 100 government-run supermarkets across the country. Working-class shoppers who sometimes endure hours-long lines at government-run stores to buy groceries at steeply reduced prices are welcoming the plan.

"The rich people have things all hoarded away, and they pull the strings," said Juan Rodriguez, who waited two hours to enter the government-run Abastos Bicentenario supermarket near downtown Caracas on Monday, and then waited another three hours to check out.

Rigid currency controls and a shortage of U.S. dollars make it increasingly difficult for Venezuelans to find imported basic products like milk, flour, toilet paper and cooking oil. Price controls don't help either, with producers complaining that some goods are priced too low to make a profit and justify production....

New York Times, just like CNN, will do anything to make a few pennies.  Not that I am against such op-eds.  I like reading or listening to all views.  Freedom of speech for one and all.  Bring it on. 

But, why is someone not questioning Nicolas Maduro what the government has been doing with all the money from the oil sales. Yes, we understand that they now have good health care for each and every citizen like he states ... but what about staple food to keep them alive and healthy?  Why is nobody interviewing him about why we have seen evidence of Venezuelans standing in never-ending queues at the grocery stores for the most  basic of items?  Why is Venezuela not able to set up their own factories for manufacturing the various items needed by its citizens instead of blaming others for holding up supplies?  Why is Venezuela not making use of its vast lands to grow wheat, rice or corn and have these staples on hand without relying on prompt supplies from other countries?  Why are Venezuelans not given the basic education in agriculture and in learning the most important language in the universe .... English?

Venezuelans are proud of our democracy. We have built a participatory democratic movement from the grass roots that has ensured that both power and resources are equitably distributed among our people.



According to the United Nations, Venezuela has consistently reduced inequality: It now has the lowest income inequality in the region. We have reduced poverty enormously — to 25.4 percent in 2012, on the World Bank’s data, from 49 percent in 1998; in the same period, according to government statistics, extreme poverty diminished to 6 percent from 21 percent.

We have created flagship universal health care and education programs, free to our citizens nationwide. We have achieved these feats in large part by using revenue from Venezuelan oil.

Cuba in process of bidding farewell to socialism

Good news if you wanna invest in Cuba.  If you have the capital or the backers,  this is a good time to open up shop in Cuba.  The people there are starving for the kind of goods easily available in the West.  Food items, clothing, knick-knacks  .... almost everything we take for granted over here is not seen by the folks in Cuba.  When moi and some friends visited Cuba a few years ago, we were told by other friends who had visited the place earlier that  the hotel staff would appreciate anything we give them as gifts.... clothes, shoes, costume jewellery,etc.   I gave some costume jewellery, makeup items and all the clothes I used on the trip and more to the maids in the hotel and they were thrilled.  I advise anybody vacationing there to take a suitcase full of stuff to give away to the friendly and very appreciative folks living in that communist country.  I sincerely hope their lot improves with these proposed new laws.

She says, "People ask us, ‘why don't you leave? You're eating, swallowing bombs and eating tear gas. Why do you stay locked up there?' But this is where we live and this is the center of our lives."

She uses her swimming goggles to protect her eyes from tear gas.
And she keeps handkerchiefs and gloves handy, she says, just in case a smoke bomb falls inside her store, which has already happened.

One of these bombs recently set her roof on fire.
Earlier this week Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced the capture of 11 masked protesters in Altamira.
"And we will capture them all," he said.
"That's how we will make true justice and achieve peace," he added.
The opposition says the instability is caused by government repression.........

Venezuela .... hardly in the news

The riots and killings are continuing but why are we not seeing anything much?  Sad to say, IMO, it's the Venezuelans themselves who are to blame for the lack of news. Most of their tweets from Venezuelans are in Spanish ... as if the whole world should learn their language to understand what's happening there.  English, English please dear Venezuelans.  Learn to speak, write and propagandize in English if you want our attention.  Even the Arabs flood twitter with English tweets and you guys can't?    This is the single biggest problem with the Latino communities.  Even after decades into their migration or invasion into the USA, they keep chattering in their Spanish holla holla shit  instead of learning the universal language  ...  English.

The below is  the little I found to show what's happening there.  The vid below is from Vice and is from Feb. 28.  Venezuela has also received the short end of the stick because of the possibility of the  WW3 situation developing in Ukraine.  Sad !

The pic at bottom of this post reminded me of what I had personally seen when visiting Cuba a few years ago. You would see similar queues there, even for basic food items. The arrival of a shipment of T-shirts got the people waking up at dawn to stand in a queue outside the "lucky" store whose owner was deemed fit to get the shipment from the government, to take first peek and  if they had the money, to buy. 

We hear from Venezuelans who did not take part in the recent anti-government demonstrations for their take on what’s happening in the country.

I wish someone could explain in layman's terms why a country that should be rich because of all the oil they export is still in the grips of shortage of food,etc.  Is America and America's allies playing havoc with Venezuela's currency? Are the riches they gain by selling their oil in any given week, translate into less than half the next week because of the financial manipulation by bully powers?  Something smells to high heaven.... but being the dodo that I am, I can't figure it out.  The trouble there can't all be because the country's govt. is socialist.  If you believe that, you also believe in Santa Claus and Big Foot.

The FCC study would have covered newspapers, websites, radio and television, according to The Washington Post.

On top of the 1st Amendment problems with this proposal, the schools involved have strong ties to liberal billionaire George Soros’ Open Society Foundations and have gotten more than $1.8 million from since 2000.

The journalism programs at these schools have even more ties to Soros besides their funding, including faculty members writing for university-based publications allied with Soros-funded outlets............

........Tracking the $8.5 billion Soros-foundation world is challenging because he funds so much and many of those organizations then partner or even fund one another. ......

..........The University of Wisconsin-Madison got a whopping $1,672,397 from Soros between 2000 and 2012......

"We're turning into Cuba", government opponents wailed as they once again took to the streets for the daily protests that have now claimed nine lives nationwide.
The country was braced for further clashes on Saturday as government supporters and opponents gathered for large rival rallies in the capital. As the protests began, Ernesto Villegas, the minister of state for the revolutionary transformation of greater Caracas, warned the country was in "a spiral of death and destruction". "We can still stop a civil war," he urged.



On Friday, President Nicolas Maduro accused US intelligence services of giving the "green light for the overthrow" of the Venezuelan government, which has long sparred with the "empire" to the north. He had already expelled three US diplomats, claiming they had conspired with the students who have formed the core of the protests as part of a "far right" plot similar to that which unseated his predecessor, Hugo Chavez, for 36 hours in 2002. But he also, unusually called for talks with Washington, an indication perhaps of fears he may be losing control of the crisis.........

Eye on Venezuela

Although the vid was posted today to YouTube,  the news is probably from a few days ago.

What's happening in Venezuela? We don't care. Tell us more about Ukraine. We love those far away places more than those near us.

Instead of focusing on Venezuela, a country that's around the corner from the USA and Canada, the media of both countries insist on displaying their torrid  love affair with a country that's far away.  Wonder why? 

The Venezuela cities of Caracas, Valencia, Merida and San Cristobal are boiling over but of course Canada and the USA ignores what's happening in our backyard and instead peacock their way to Ukraine in their quest to get Ukraine in their blasted NATO membership because of Ukraine's military might and because it will be like kicking Putin in his basket.  Spoilt brats.



According to the blog  Caracas Chronicles there are too many human right violations going on as we speak but the media is only focused on Ukraine.  The cities mentioned above are all going through a govt. imposed media blackout. A police officer died after he was shot in the head, and three male protesters were also killed, officials said.
Sixty-four people, both police officers and protesters, were wounded in the clashes Tuesday, according to the Erawan Emergency Center, a medical unit monitoring the unrest in Thailand.
Police were trying to clear demonstrators, who have been campaigning against Yingluck for months in central Bangkok.......

....Once again a peaceful demonstration  in Venezuela was stained red. Thousands of demonstrators protesting against the government of Nicolas Maduro, were gunned down in the street by a horde Cedeño motorized wearing red shirts with the acronym PSUV. Stones, sticks and set fire targeting students and civil society, resulting in at least five people injured.

Protesters fled and sought refuge in buildings, shops and houses nearby. Later they received reports of intimidation. The Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) during Tuesday guarded around the march had reached the destination Plaza de Toros Monumental de Valencia, to link the north and south, disappeared amid the surrounding chaos.....

....Clashes and fires    erupt in Kiev's Maidan Square after the Ukranian uprising's deadliest day.  
Tonight, many of the tents at the protest camp in Kyiv's central "Indepedence" square went up in a blaze of glory and flames. After a day of street battles in which at least nine people were killed, demonstrators clashed with police in some of the most violent confrontations since protests began last November. In between speeches from their leaders and with the Ukranian national anthem filling the air, protesters in Kyiv's Maidan Square chanted, "Glory to Ukraine!"

Is something going on in Venezuela ?

No way right now  to get at the truth.  Knowing how  effective the USA-manufactured propaganda can be, I would rather wait and see for further proof of what's related as happening in the video below. Either the "uprising" is grassroots or funded and instigated by outside forces.  If grassroots, here's more proof that socialism meets its death sooner than later.
