Boeing’s Homicide Will Give Way to Safety Reforms if Flyers Organize
 
To understand the enormity of the Boeing 737 Max 8 crashes (Lion Air 610 and Ethiopian Airlines 302) that took a combined total of 346 lives, it is useful to look at past events and anticipate future possible problems.

In 2011, Boeing executives wanted to start a “clean sheet” new narrow body air passenger plane to replace its old 737 design from the nineteen sixties. Shortly thereafter, Boeing’s bosses panicked when American Airlines put in a large order for the competitive Airbus A320neo. Boeing shelved the new design and rushed to put out the 737 Max that, in Business Week’s words, was “pushing an ageing design past its limits.” The company raised the 737 Max landing gear and attached larger, slightly more fuel efficient engines angled higher and more forward on the wings. Such a configuration changed the aerodynamics and made the plane more prone to stall (see attached article.).

This put Boeing’s management in a quandary. Their sales pitch to the airlines was that the 737 Max only received an “amended” certification from the FAA. That it did not have to be included in more pilot training, simulators, and detailed in the flight manuals. The airlines could save money and would be more likely to buy the Boeing 737 Max.

Boeing engineers were worried. They knew better. But the managers ordered software to address the stall problem without even telling the pilots or most of the airlines. Using only one operating sensor (Airbus A320neo has three sensors), an optional warning light and indicator, Boeing set the stage for misfiring sensors that overcame pilot efforts to control the planes from their nose-down death dive.

These fixes or patches would not have been used were the new 737’s aerodynamics the same as the previous 737 models. Step by step, Boeing’s criminal negligence, driven by a race to make profits, worsened. Before and after the fatal crashes, Boeing did not reveal, did not warn, did not train, and did not address the basic defective aerodynamic design. It gagged everyone that it could. Boeing still insists that the 737 Max is safe and is building two a day, while pushing to end the grounding.

Reacting to all these documented derelictions, a flurry of investigations is underway. The Department of Transportation’s Inspector General, Calvin L. Scovel III, is investigating the hapless, captive FAA that has delegated to Boeing important FAA statutory and regulatory duties. The Justice Department and FBI have opened a criminal probe, with an active grand jury. The National Transportation Safety Board, long the hair shirt of the FAA, is investigating. As are two Senate and House Committees. Foreign governments are investigating, as surely are the giant insurance companies who are on the hook. This all sounds encouraging, but we’ve seen such initiatives pull back before.

As wedding guests were leaving the Coptic Orthodox Church of the Virgin Mary in Warraq al-Hadar, Giza, a car and a motorcycle pulled up, and a masked gunman on the motorcycle opened fire with an automatic weapon. At least 15 bullets were fired indiscriminately before the attackers drove away.
Two guests were killed during the attack, with two more dying later from gunshot wounds. The deceased are eight year-old Mariam Ashraf, twelve year-old Miriam Nabil, 45 year-old Samir Fahmy and 56 year-old Camilia Attiya, the mother of the groom. CSW’s sources confirm that 18 others were injured and that all of the deceased were Christians. According to Father Thomas Daoud Ibrahim, priest of the Warraq church, three wedding services had been taking place at the time of the attack.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack; however, it comes after a wave of violence by Muslim Brotherhood supporters targeting the Coptic community, which they claim played a primary role in the removal of former President Morsi. .........

....Egypt's prosecutor general on Tuesday ordered the trial of four police officers charged with killing 39 Muslim Brotherhood members in August after they were picked up in the crackdown that followed the military overthrow of President Mohamed Mursi.
The Islamists died after teargas was fired into the back of the police van in which they were being held. The four policemen have been arrested and charged with murder and unintended injury, a security source said.
Also on Tuesday, hundreds of students demanding Mursi's reinstatement protested for a fourth consecutive day at universities in several provinces.
Security forces fired teargas at supporters and opponents of Mursi in front of Mansoura University, north of Cairo, a witness said.....

....Cairo and Addis Ababa may soon reach a truce  to calm their dispute over the construction of the Renaissance Dam on the Blue Nile in Ethiopia. Both countries have recently shown good faith and agreed to negotiate about the project. Egypt has even agreed to take part in building the dam, though without declaring its conditions for doing so.
At a news conference Oct. 7, Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn announced that his country welcomes the participation of Egypt and Sudan in the construction of the dam and stressed that his government considers the dam to be jointly owned by Sudan, Ethiopia and Egypt. Cairo viewed his statement as a positive step toward reaching a consensus on the project, despite its earlier sharp criticism of it.
In a telephone conversation Oct. 17, Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdul Muttalib told Al-Monitor: “Egypt doesn’t mind joining the Ethiopian government in building the dam for the service and development of the Ethiopian people. But we must agree on a number of items in a clear way to prevent any damage to Egypt as a result of the dam construction. The Egyptian government always opts for cooperation and participation. … During the coming negotiations with Ethiopia over the dam, we will clarify our position regarding the policy and method of operating the dam, the size of the storage lake attached to it, and how to fill it with water in times of flood and drought.” He stressed, “Egypt will definitely not participate in the construction unless these policies are agreed upon and agreements regarding them are signed.”........

Ethiopia forges ahead with their economic plans ....

and building the $4.7 billion Great Renaissance Dam is definitely the major part of that economy.  The Muslim Brotherhood's Egypt can go cry in the wind with their threats of war.   Five other  countries, through which the Nile runs, have also joined Ethiopia in doing away with the colonial-era treaties.   The colonial powers had no right to impose their will on the natives of those lands by drawing up treaties favoring the country that was the most enslaved to the colonial masters ... Egypt.   Ethiopia should have disregarded those treaties long ago.

....Ethiopia's parliament unanimously ratified on Thursday a treaty that strips Egypt of its right to the lion's share of the Nile river waters, raising the political temperature in a dispute between Cairo and Addis Ababa over the construction of a dam.
The parliament's move follows days of irate exchanges between two of Africa's most populous nations over Ethiopia's new hydroelectric plant, which Egypt fears will reduce a water supply vital for its 84 million people.
Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi said on Monday he did not want "war" but would keep "all options open", prompting Ethiopia to say it was ready to defend its $4.7 billion Great Renaissance Dam near the border with Sudan.
Six Nile basin countries including Ethiopia have signed a deal effectively stripping Cairo of its veto, which is based in colonial-era treaties, over dam projects on the Nile, source of nearly all Egypt's water.
Ethiopia's late leader Meles Zenawi had delayed parliamentary ratification until Egypt elected a new government.
"Most of the upstream countries have approved it through their parliaments. We delayed it as a gesture of goodwill to the people of Egypt until a formal elected government was in place," Ethiopian government spokesman Bereket Simon told Reuters.
"We have a principled stance on the construction of dams. We are determined to see our projects brought to completion."
Another government spokesman, Shimeles Kemal, said Ethiopia's 547-seat legislature had voted to "incorporate the treaty into domestic law"........

Caliphate of Egypt making aggressive moves on Ethiopia

Watch for the Nile water dispute to develop into something big.  Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood govt. will most likely make trouble for the largely non-Muslim Ethiopia by funding and supporting the islamist rebels there who are plaguing the government of Ethiopia.  By now we know that's the modus operandi in whichever corner of  the globe their number increases to that magic percentage.  If the wikipedia link above is to be believed, then in less than 15 years from 1994 to 2007, the muslim population in Ethiopia has almost doubled.  If not for the Protestants more than doubling their number too,  then the muzzies would have been close to almost 40% of the population.

I am willing to bet right here and now that funds from both Egypt and Libya must have already been flowing to the rebel gangs in Ethiopia and that is why caliphated Egypt is now flexing her muscles, making threats and beating the war drums because they know they already have an army of terrorists inside Ethiopia.

Ethiopia has as much rights to the Nile waters ... in my opinion, even more so, because the Blue Nile which starts from Ethiopia actually merges with the waters we know as the Nile river,  making that body larger and giving  Egypt and Sudan their main water supply.  So, without a doubt they have every right to build a dam to access the water flowing inside their own country.  Why is it that difficult for the caliphated Egypt to understand that simple fact which even a two year old would easily comprehend?

Egypt's foreign minister,  vowing not to give up "a single drop of water from the Nile", said on Sunday he would go to Addis Ababa to discuss a giant dam that Ethiopia has begun building in defiance of Cairo's objections.

Speaking to Egypt's state news agency MENA two days after the Ethiopian government flatly rejected a request from Cairo to halt the project, Mohamed Kamel Amr said Egyptians view any obstacle to the river's flow as a threat to national survival.



"No Nile - no Egypt," he said, highlighting the pressure on the Egyptian government, whose popularity is wilting in the face of economic troubles, to prevent the hydro power plant cutting already stretched water supplies for its 84 million people.

Last week, Ethiopia summoned the Egyptian ambassador after politicians in Cairo were shown on television suggesting military action or supporting Ethiopian rebels - a mark of the threat felt in Cairo from the plan to dam the Blue Nile, the tributary that supplies the bulk of water downstream in Egypt.

"Egypt won't give up on a single drop of water from the Nile or any part of what arrives into Egypt from this water in terms of quantity and quality," Amr told MENA, noting that Egypt has little rain and is effectively desert without its great river....

Foreign maids on landing in the Middle East, morph into vicious killers and criminals

Hmmmm...  I wonder why that is.   Do the Arabs have a special way of saying "Abracadabra" and lo and behold these seemingly sweet, mild, tiny, frail, thin women who have the misfortune of setting  their feet in that most unholy soil found on Earth, get transformed into raving, raging, blood-thirsty, strong as mules, killing machines ?   How is it possible that these maids become killers of their employers, their employees' babies, jewel thieves and all-round criminals?  I know how .... but do you?   The last vid is supposed to be of an Ethiopian maid who failed in her attempt to escape her Saudi employers and is forcibly taken back (or maybe to a  jail cell from where she might  never be heard of again) in a police van.

The death row prisoners include a domestic worker convicted of beating her employer to death when he allegedly tried to rape her.
On Wednesday, authorities in the Middle Eastern country ignored international pleas and beheaded maid Rizana Nafeek, 24, who was convicted of killing a baby despite protesting her innocence.
Human rights groups believe Indonesians account for the majority of the maids on death row and that there are Sri Lankans, Filipinos, Indians and Ethiopians also facing execution.

Campaigners say many of Saudi Arabia's 1.5 million migrant workers, around 375,000 of whom are Sri Lankan, are attracted to the country by the prospect of working for wealthy families but face exploitation and abuse.
This can range from months of hard work without pay to physical violence, in a country where legal protections are particularly weak, and access to lawyers, translators and embassies is often blocked.



Human Rights Watch's Nisha Varia told The Observer: 'The Saudi justice system is characterised by arbitrary arrests, unfair trials and harsh punishments. A domestic worker facing abuse or exploitation from her employer might run away and then be accused of theft. 
Amnesty International Saudi Arabia researcher Dina el-Mamoun said there is growing alarm at the number of migrant workers being sentenced to death, with more than 120 foriegn nationals known to be on death row.

She said migrant workers in Saudi Arabia are at great risk if they end up in the criminal justice system and added countries should be advising their residents of the 'very real and deadly' risks. 
Ms Mamoun said: 'In many cases they're subjected to whole trials where they can't understand the proceedings, which are conducted solely in Arabic, and without translation. They are often not given access to consular assistance.'
Death row prisoner Tuti Tursilawati binti Warjuki, 27, from Indonesia, faces execution for murdering her employer in 2010 when he allegedly attempted to rape her.

Her supporters say she was abused by the man since arriving in the country a year earlier and was denied legal representation for the first two months of her trial.



Siti Zainab, also from Indonesia, has also been sentenced to death after being convicted in 1999 of stabbing her female employer to death.
She confessed to the murder but the authorities appear to have dismissed concerns over her mental health.
Prisoner Satinah binti Jumadi Ahmad, 40, was arrested in 2007 for killing her female employer. The Indonesian government is prepared to pay some of the £1.6m blood money demanded by the woman's family to save her.
Reports of what happened vary from her fighting back after being attacked to the maid having snapped after suffering months of abuse before being accused of stealing.



The Sri Lankan government has spoken out against the execution of house maid Rizana Nafeek, from, Sri Lanka, after she was beheaded in public by a sword last week.
Miss Nafeek was sentenced to death in 2007 after her Saudi employer accused her of strangling his four-month-old baby two years earlier after a dispute with the child's mother..............

Nepalese, Ethiopian and Filipina workers kept as slaves in Arab lands and yet the West considers these same demonic countries allies

The West considers Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar  and Oman as  their  allies and friends.    I find it disgusting that our own Minister of Foreign Affairs recently journeyed to these lands  and has  let these slave masters not only talk to him but also influence him with their taqiyyah.  Have we in the West lost all dignity and all humanity???  Has our hatred of the Iranian regime made us blind  to the  countries in the world where  human right abuses are at their worst?

Nepal has banned women    under the age of 30 from going to work in Middle Eastern countries amid growing concerns that they are being exploited.
Common complaints include physical and sexual abuse, poor conditions and non-payment of salaries.
The move comes 18 months after the government ended a 12-year ban on women working in Gulf countries.
It was imposed after a young woman, who had been abused in Kuwait, committed suicide, sparking outrage in Nepal.



Every day, an estimated 1,000 people leave Nepal for the Middle East for jobs as housemaids. It is estimated that there are as many as 200,000 Nepalese women working there unofficially.
But they can be vulnerable and Nepal's embassies in the region say they deal with numerous cases of women seeking shelter after alleged physical and sexual abuse.
"Young female workers are reported to have been sexually and psychologically exploited in Gulf countries," Information Minister Raj Kishor Yadav was quoted as saying in the Himalayan Times English-language daily newspaper.......

....The most frequent cause of death  among immigrant housemaids in GCC Member States is “falling down from high floors” according to an attorney investigating worker grievances.  Some of these women may have been driven to suicide by their horrid circumstances, but many probably were murdered.  There is no respect for their lives.

An Emirati woman and her male neighbor were convicted in Abu Dhabi of stripping the woman’s Asian housemaid naked and beating her to death with a frying pan, then threatening the maid’s colleague against reporting the murder to authorities.

Three Kuwaiti men stalking a Sri Lankan housemaid waited for her to finish shopping and start walking home before jumping on her and throwing her into their car.  They then drove to an empty lot behind a building and took turns in raping her despite her constant screams.  The attackers have not yet been found.

In 2008, in the United Arab Emirates, a woman who was gang-raped by a group of men was imprisoned for eight months for adultery after reporting the crime to the police.

Employers or Sponsors often rape housemaids too.  If a pregnancy results, they will abuse her until she miscarries, get her deported, or cause her death.  If her child somehow survives, it will have no rights, no protection, no food, and no shelter.

A Saudi employer and his wife were arrested in Riyadh for torturing a Sri Lankan housemaid by hammering 18 heated nails into her arms, legs, and forehead.  The nails ranged in length from one to three inches.  The case is still pending.



Another Indonesian maid was tortured and so badly maimed and burned by her female Saudi employer that she became unrecognizable as the pretty 23-year-old she had been.  Before and after pictures in this article would make any decent person both sick and very angry.  Also, the employer, though initially sentenced to three years for her crime, was later allowed to go free.

The appeals court in Kuwait upheld the death sentence of a Kuwaiti housewife for murdering her Filipina domestic helper but commuted the punishment on her disabled husband.  They had regularly beaten the maid until her health failed, then taken her to the desert where they threw her out of the car and ran over her repeatedly until she died.....

What has Saudi Arabia done with the 35 Ethiopian Christians they arrested 8 months ago ????

Lookee folks ... Saudi Arabia has a female with a Christian first name in their embassy in Washington !!   Not only that, she has learned to tell bold faced lies just like her Muslim masters.  Now isn't that something ?!!!

..... Local authorities in fact refuse to acknowledge that the 29 women and 6 men were imprisoned for religious reasons. What is known is that they have been beaten, subjected to interrogations and strip searches......

....On 15 December 2011, 35 Ethiopian immigrants gathered in the private home of one of them to pray during the Advent of Christmas. The religious police (Muttawa) burst into the house and arrested those present.

The Christians were first taken to a police station, and later moved to Buraiman Prison. Women were forced to strip for a body search; the men were beaten and insulted as "unbelievers".

Ten days after their arrest, the prisoners were taken to court where they were forced to affix their fingerprints on a paper they were not allowed to read.

The initial charge was "gender mingling", a term that refers to situations when unrelated members of the opposite sex are found together.

In May, the US Congress asked the Saudi Embassy in Washington to explain the situation. Embassy officer Sarah Nezamuddin told a Congressional office that the Christians had all been arrested for involvement in drug and human trafficking, a story she later changed to issues relating to their work permits. For Congress officials, the Christians did not commit any crime and should be released.

According to ICC sources, a few days after the meeting in Washington, the prisoners were brought to a court for the first time in six months. After two hearings, the authorities locked them up against without specifying reasons for the detention or when they would be released.

"I continue to be baffled by the inability of the Saudi government to explain exactly why 35 Christians attending a prayer service at a private home were suddenly arrested almost six months ago," said ICC Advocacy Officer Ryan Morgan.

"The story keeps changing, and it is very troubling to think that a key US ally in the Middle East may be lying to US government officials about why they are arresting religious minorities," Morgan added......

1. (C) Arab Wahabi missionaries, mainly from Saudi Arabia, continue to make inroads into the Ethiopian Muslim community, but are meeting increasing resistance in doing so. Islam has existed in Ethiopia since the time of the Prophet Muhammad and the mainly Sufi Muslim community has enjoyed traditions, customs, and cultural practices that have endured for centuries.
