From waste to biofuels

Edmonton goes on record as the world's first municipality opting to go this route. If this is really as good and as feasible as it appears to be, why not adopt the idea all over Canada?

....The world’s first municipal facility to convert household garbage into biofuels opened Wednesday at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre. It’s expected that by 2016, 90 per cent of the city’s waste will be diverted out of the landfill due to this new facility. Currently, Edmonton recycles and composts 60 per cent of its waste.

Q: How does it work?

A: Enerkem, the Quebec-based company that owns the plant, will handle the operations, with the city supplying 100,000 tonnes of sorted municipal waste that can’t be recycled or composted. This material is “a mixture of non-recyclable plastics, non-recyclable fibre, there’s wood, there’s even such things as shingles — that gets shredded down and that’s what we are fed with,” said Vincent Chornet, CEO of Enerkem. From there, the waste is converted into gas, and then again into liquid methanol.

Q: What can’t be used in the process?

A: About 10 per cent of the material going to the plant will be left over. Items like metal, ceramics and glass can’t be converted into methanol and will be taken to the landfill.

Q: What will the biofuels be used for?

A: One common use of methanol is windshield washer fluid, because it doesn’t freeze. It’s also a building block for other chemicals. A large portion will be purchased by a local chemical company that produces products for the forestry sector, said Jim Schubert, director business planning and business operations for the City of Edmonton. “Ethanol, is commonly used as a blend for gasoline,” he said. “It’s mandated in Alberta to have a five per cent ethanol blend, so it will more likely be sold to one of the refineries nearby and be used to power your vehicle.”

Q: How much will this cost Edmontonians?

A: There is almost no difference in cost to the current operation. Currently, the city is paying $70 per tonne to transport and landfill waste. The new system costs $75 per tonne. “So for approximately the same cost we’re going to be turning that material into something useful instead of storing it in a landfill for future generations,” Schubert said........

EDMONTON ... Alberta

 A group of Edmontonians  rallied downtown at noon Wednesday to protest Omar Khadr’s potential return to Canada.

About 15 to 20 protesters demanded the federal government block Khadr from returning to his home country or have him charged with treason.
“He is a confessed killer and a jihadist, and he is a threat to our country,” said protester Sharon Maclise outside the Edmonton Law Courts.
“We’re here to ask our government that if in fact they have to bring him back, we want him to be charged with treason the moment he crosses the border.”
Toronto-born Khadr was arrested by U.S. forces in Afghanistan in 2002, at age 15, following a U.S. air strike on an Afghan compound. He has since been detained at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, and in 2010 he pleaded guilty to throwing a grenade that killed a U.S. soldier in July 2002.

Shame on the Edmonton Police Services

Don't they know that the goal should be to name and shame the criminals and offenders once charges have been laid against such individuals?  What sort of an appeasement game is the Chief  of the Edmonton Police Services playing by going to all lengths not to give the names of criminals caught in the police nets?   It's not just for the crime linked below,  for almost every news release, the EPS is shielding the names of those charged.   SHAME !!!

We all know that Edmonton is fast becoming into the kind of  areas  Somali immigrants have turned various points in Minnesota.  As long as our politicians and our police services in Canada continue playing the disaster game of Political Correctness, this very damaging Muslim criminal behaviour in Canada will not diminish, not by even a centimetre.  Just posting some pics of  some people trying to escape the drug bust (and in my opinion, they look like Somalis) is not enough.   Names, give us names.  Don't destroy Canada by  being  blasted politically correct fucks.

Undercover operation targets drug traffickers

The Edmonton Police Service has arrested 30 individuals and laid 155 charges related to drug trafficking following a focused six-week drug operation in the downtown core.
As part of the EPS Violence Reduction Strategy, the enforcement activity was in direct response to an increase in complaints from local residents and businesses, all regarding drug-related violence and disorder occurring within a three-block radius.
The purpose of the operation was to target drug dealers along 101 Street between 103 Avenue and 106 Avenue, where the majority of the drug-related crime was being reported. Drug trafficking facilitates robberies, assaults and property crime.
The objective of the project was to disrupt the street level drug network, along with the resulting criminal activity (violence and disorder) associated with the purchase and use of illegal drugs.
Thirty-six dealers were identified as currently active in the area. To date, 30 men and women have been arrested and lodged in custody. Warrants have been filed for the remaining six.
The timing of the operation should have the majority of those arrested in custody and awaiting trial during the busy summer months, when police resources are used to full capacity. Those released will have bail conditions preventing them from drug activity or attending the district.
“Within the targeted area there are shelters in place to provide assistance to anyone wanting to change their life or in need of help from various social agencies,” says Downtown Division Acting Supt. Dave Berry. “It should be a safe place for vulnerable people to access without being exposed to predators, triggers or temptation.”
The EPS continues to conduct operations targeting drug dealers as an ongoing effort to reduce violence and overall crime, and to encourage citizens and businesses to continue to report drug related or suspicious criminal activity to the EPS.....
