The Quebec controversy: Question for the Muslim women in Canada

Muslim women in Quebec are in an uproar because of the govt's initiative to ban their hijabs and such in the workplace.  Why are Muslim women not in an uproar when they go to do their Hajj and MUST uncover their faces and mingle with men,  whether those men be their relatives or not?

Koran proficiency tests for legislative candidates in Indonesia

Indonesia takes the parroting one step further.  

Dozens of legislative candidates vying for the 81 seats in the Aceh provincial legislature in the 2014 general election have flunked a Koran proficiency test — one of the requirements under a local bylaw for running for public office.

Akmal Abzal, a commissioner with the Aceh Independent Elections Commission (KIP), said that 42 of 1,231 people from 12 political parties failed the test.

“There were only three political parties whose members all passed the Koran proficiency test 100 percent,” Akmal told the Jakarta Globe on Tuesday.

However, Akmal, who is also the chairman of the test committee, refused to disclose the names of the politicians who failed the test or what political parties they were from, citing ethical reasons.

“One thing is certain: There were legislative candidates from a nationalist Islamic party who couldn’t read the Koran. There were also legislative candidates from a local party,” he said.

The 2014 general election will see 15 parties participate in Aceh, including three local parties — the Aceh Peace Party (PDA), the Aceh National Party (PNA) and the Aceh Party (PA). The rest are national-based parties.

Aceh is the only province in the country allowed to have local parties and the only one that requires the Koran proficiency test for prospective candidates.

Akmal said the test was held for three days from Saturday until Monday.

“There was no intervention in the results from anyone because the team of judges worked independently and professionally. Their decision is unanimous and cannot be challenged,” said Akmal, adding that the judges were all past winners of Koran recital competitions.

Akmal said that the KIP had held a plenary meeting on the legislative candidates who failed the test and that it would soon notify political parties about their candidates who did not make the cut.

“The parties may replace their legislative candidates who failed the Koran proficiency test with other candidates before the deadline,” he said.........

....A day after launching  airstrikes and mortar shells in a remote part of the island of Borneo, Malaysian security forces searched house-to-house Wednesday for gunmen from the Philippines who infiltrated the area last month and clashed with police.
The group of Filipino men is believed to number between 100 and 300.
It arrived three weeks ago on the east coast of the Malaysian state of Sabah, on Borneo, demanding recognition as representatives of an old sultanate that ruled the area.
Efforts by Malaysian and Philippine authorities to persuade the men to return peacefully to their homes in the nearby southern Philippines failed, and the standoff descended into clashes last week that reportedly left 28 people dead, including nine police officers.
Malaysian security forces said their offensive Tuesday, which involved fighter jets, mortars and ground troops, achieved its objectives.
However, they did not disclose the number of Filipino fighters captured or killed in the operation, and the Filipino group said the Malaysian attack failed to inflict any casualties.....

Our story begins with the hideous citizens of Sickoland huddled in a damp, dirty cave full of bat droppings, cowering in fear.

Our heroes could hear the creature roaring in rage outside the cave. It was going to be a bloody battle if they so much as tried to go past her. Robert McClelland: It's actually very satisfying when they either get caught with their pants around their ankles in public or moan about their misfortune, or series of misfortunes, on their blog. 
 Ti-Guy : What you should do is simply write up a post highlighting Ms. Dodo's "threat" to contravene privacy laws. If she does have friends in Revenue Canada who passed on information to her, I believe that would *two* crimes. Then mention Stephen Taylor and wonder why the aggregator he runs harbours potential criminals and/or the demonstrably insane, whichever applies. This post wasn't succinct enough to have that message dominate. 
 Bismark: Well, we've seen what she's made of "spit gobbles of green yuck" apparently. I can hardly wait for the next post where she: a) moans about being "attacked" by eeeeevil leftists; or b) boasts about how she's enraged the aforementioned "leftists" while snuffing out all of their comments. The fact that this "conservative woman" claims to believe in "total freedom of speech" is just beyond precious. Just another spineless, utterly pathetic douchebag.
 Jon Pertwee :"This is one BROWN conservative woman who will not be "politically correct" and ignore your attacks like the sweet white conservative soft targets you have been dealing with and let you get away with the attacks you are launching on me." Bigotry as a defense and as a threat. Sounds like she's preparing for the Klan to show up at her house. 
Artful Nudger: Looks like my comment went the way of her namesake too. All I did was point out the logical inconsistency of "bring it on" coupled with barring all comments that would attempt to bring the it on. I also criticized her on massacring the biblical aphorism "turn the other cheek" - which really would have been a prime moment for her to turn around and nail me with a "The Devil can quote scripture." Ah well. We've already seen that she's not terribly quick on her mental feet. 
 Cherniak_WTF: As for Maria, I'm guessing she's some kind of Jesus Freak who hates fags.... but that's really an easy guess... and yes the Free Speech warrior does moderate...
