Egyptian lawmakers want to ban Muslim women from covering their faces
Egyptian lawmakers are pushing for a ban on the niqab, a veil worn by women that covers most of one’s face, in what has become a fight over personal liberties and the government’s attempt to control religion in Egyptian society.
The pro-government Egypt Support Coalition, a group of lawmakers within parliament, told local media that it is drafting a bill to present to parliament that bars Muslim women from wearing the veil in public places or in state institutions. “We seek to spread moderate Islam,” Amna Nuseir, a member of the group told Gulf News. “The niqab is not an Islamic duty.”
The niqab, a symbol of rising Islamic conservatism to some, has been a source of tension for years. Authorities ruled that American University’s satellite campus in Cairo could not ban women from wearing the veil in 2007. But in 2009, Egypt’s oldest university, al-Azhar, banned women from wearing the niqab in classrooms and dormitories. Other universities prohibited women from wearing the veil during exams on the grounds that it could facilitate cheating.
A recent ban on the niqab at Cairo University was expanded this month to include female staff at the school’s teaching hospitals and medical departments. In October, university officials said female teachers were not allowed to wear the veil while lecturing. Upscale venues in Cairo have barred women wearing the niqab from entering on security grounds, claiming that it obscures one’s identity.....

Harper loses because we don't want a party pandering to Israel and taking orders from Israel and USA on Ukraine, Syria, Iran or any other country anywhere else in the world. We don't want a govt. bending to the will of Ukrainian Canadians, whether they be Jewish or otherwise. We don't want a govt. bending to the will of anybody in the blatant fashion that Harper and his Cons have been doing. We don't want our govt involving itself in the affairs of another country ... whether with support (like in the case of Ukraine and Israel) and war-like (like in the case of Russia, Iran and Syria). We don't want Canada involved in any war ... PERIOD.
We don't want a govt whose leader encouraged the butcher of Gaza to go forth and do genocide.
Goodbye Harper, goodbye Cons. This party is over for now and for at least another decade.
NDP's downfall to the level it has slipped was to do with Mulcair's statement on the niqab. This incident will go down in Canadian history because it shows how the communists lost their footing all thanks to an illiterate immigrant from Pakistan and how our equally illiterate Supreme Court let her stance on the niqab stand as a religious right. This should teach the far left that on some issues, especially to do with Islam, it is not a good thing to pander to islamists hoping for their votes. Heck, most of them don't even go to the polls....but try telling that to the lefty nuts.
If my prediction is wrong, I will give up blogging on political issues.
Ugh! Who the fuck are the bastards and bitches sitting in power in Canada's Supreme Court? Whoever they are, they will now be partly responsible for having brought up the subject of the niqab and given the Cons a chance to show that they speak logic on this topic unlike the other parties and the Supremes. I would have thought that the Supreme Court would research a little further and come to the realization that the face covering has NOTHING TO DO WITH RELIGION but was a mode of dress which was a necessity in the sand dunes of most of Arabia and parts of Africa and the reason for the face cover was because the regions had constant dust storms which affected everybody venturing outside their homes. Even the men there, at one time, covered their faces because of the elements. And, even to this day, when the desert conditions turn nasty, the men cover their faces to shield their eyes from the flying sand. NOTHING TO DO WITH RELIGION.
The latest polls are sure to show the Cons at the top again ... thanks to the three doddering, brainless Supremes.
This misstep by the Supremes is going to ensure that the progressive Muslims who were probably averse to Harper because of his constant kneeling and bowing to Israel and taking Canada into Syria, will now re-think their stance .... because believe you me ... they have not left their own countries to come here and be confronted with the same medeival, illiterate cavemen thinking they thought they had escaped from.

Niqab ruling to be appealed to Supreme Court, Tories say
Conservatives vow to reintroduce niqab ruling within 100 days of re-election
Conservatives doubled down on their position that women should not wear face coverings during citizenship ceremonies, saying the government would take the matter to the Supreme Court, while vowing to reintroduce the niqab ban within 100 days of re-election.
On Tuesday, the Federal Court of Appeal dismissed the government's appeal of an earlier Federal Court ruling that declared the ban on face coverings at such ceremonies was unlawful.
The decision stemmed from the case of Zunera Ishaq, a 29-year-old woman with devout Muslim beliefs who came to Ontario from Pakistan in 2008. She refused to take part in a citizenship ceremony because she would have to show her face under a ban introduced in 2011.
The three-judge panel ruled from the bench, saying they wanted to proceed quickly so that Ishaq could obtain her citizenship in time to vote in the Oct. 19 federal election.........
One of Ishaq's lawyers, Marlys Edwardh, said the Immigration Department would be contacted this week so she could attend a citizenship ceremony — accompanied by her lawyers "just in case." ..........

Shukria Barakzai has endured a miscarriage from Taliban attacks, a secretly polygamous husband, street beatings by extremists, an aggressive opposition campaign from that same husband and multiple assassination attempts. Just one of these would stop most normal people in their tracks.
But Barakzai is not normal people. She is a feminist politician reshaping the social and political landscape of Afghanistan.
Entering political life was not a decision she made, but rather one that her circumstances made for her, Barakzai told Mic. Understanding the role she wanted to play and the person she wanted to be in Afghan society demanded her civic participation — and civic participation demanded a confrontation of the issues she faced in her personal life.
Equal rights: While Barakzai was lobbying for women's rights, her husband, whom she described as previously being her "best friend," took a second wife without telling her. "I don't know if I should say that it was the most bad accident of my life or another wake-up call, because I was and I am against polygamy," Barakzai said. She found out about the second wife not from her husband himself, but through rumors.
At the time, she happened to be battling her male colleagues on the Constitutional Drafting Committee for equal treatment of women under the law. The irony of her personal life only added to the humiliation.
But she kept up the campaign, and when the 2005 parliamentary elections came along and women were allowed to participate, Barakzai ran for office in part to effect change for gender equality — a campaign that included the promise to outlaw misogynistic practices like polygamy. But her husband was one of many male competitors who challenged her for the parliamentary seat.
"He was a multimillionaire at that time. [He] spent half a million U.S. dollars, [with] big pollsters, and I was like a poor woman with one microphone, with a loudspeaker. I did a street campaign," Barakzai told Mic, recounting her political race a decade ago. "Even today it's not an easy job for any woman to [be using] a loudspeaker and walking on the street and asking for democracy and explaining the election and asking men and women to vote for a woman."

One should always stick by one's convictions even if it means the world will turn against you but that's not going to stop you being proud of yourself. So what's important to you ... what others think of you or what you think of yourself? You said what probably 80% of Canadians think but only 10% have the courage to voice. 'This sentiment is not an aberration among the Conservatives,' NDP critic says
A veteran backbench Conservative MP has apologized for telling Muslim women who want to wear the niqab while taking the citizenship oath to "stay the hell where you came from."
In a statement issued Tuesday morning, Bruce–Grey–Owen Sound MP Larry Miller said that he stands by his views that those who wish to be sworn in as citizens should uncover their face.
"However, I apologize for and retract my comments that went beyond this," he said.
According to a post on the Broadbent Institute-affiliated blog Press Progress, Miller — who was once described by National Post columnist John Ivison as "the voice in [Prime Minister Stephen] Harper's ear" — made the comments during an open-line talk show on local radio station CFOS on Monday...........
Why do I have this sinking feeling that this kind of one-man jihadi action will be seen again and again?

Soldier struck by Martin Rouleau in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., hit and run dies

One of two soldiers wounded in a hit and run involving a "radicalized" 25-year-old man in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., has died, provincial police say.
Martin Rouleau, the 25-year-old suspect, was fatally shot on Monday after hitting two soldiers in a parking lot in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, a city about 40 kilometres southeast of Montreal.
The family of the soldier who died asked that his name not be released.
Police do not fear for the second soldier's life......
......The RCMP said they suspected he had become radicalized after converting to Islam about a year ago.
"This individual was known to federal authorities, including our integrated national security investigations team in Montreal, who along with other authorities were concerned that he had become radicalized," the RCMP said in a statement Monday evening......
Next, you can expect it to be mandatory that each and every store selling women's attire will have to, not only carry these items, but the tools needed to cut off the clitoris from a vagina. I wonder what else these people who only look for making a buck at the cost of selling their country, will do next. Money loving traitors.

John Lewis to sell hijab in school uniform department for first time
The veil, which is worn by some Muslim women in the presence of adult males outside of their family, is to be sold in the company’s stores in London and Liverpool after it signed contracts with two schools.
The news that a mainstream store is offering the hijab will likely be welcomed by parents in the Muslim community, who would otherwise have to rely on specialist shops for the purchase.
John Lewis has said its decision to stock the headdress is simply a response to demand.

Hérouxville’s André Drouin delivers warning at charter hearings. His message was bluntly worded and direct: get moving on ridding Quebec of religious accommodations or face the perils other countries have.
André Drouin, the former Hérouxville city councillor who became an international figure in his battle for secularism, made an appearance Wednesday at the committee examining Bill 60.
He has not changed a bit.
Off the top, the veteran of several commissions on the issue including Bouchard-Taylor put MNAs of all stripes in their place, saying he's heard all the arguments — pro and con — before.
"There are no more guidelines today then there were seven years ago," Drouin, wearing his trademark checkered shirted, told a hushed room.
"We are spinning in circles and the more we spin the deeper the hole gets and we can no longer get out. It's not too late. It's not too deep.
"I have the impression our elected officials are scared to take a stand, to say, my man or woman, put your beliefs aside for six or eight hours a day and the other seven hours you can practise.......
......He urged the province to make sure — through the ban — that people can no longer guess what faith a person has by looking at them.

Drouin made worldwide headlines in 2007 when, in his then role as city councillor, he had the city of 1,300 with virtually no immigrants adopt a code of conduct for minorities......
....Earlier, a union group with close ties to the Parti Québécois sparked a thunderstorm when it launched a blistering attack against Québec solidaire MNA Amir Khadir accusing him of condoning the segregation of men and women in mosques.
The Syndicalistes et progressistes pour un Québec libre (SPQ-Libre) tabled a copy of a photo of Khadir attending a rally of a Muslim association.
Taken in 2012 just before the provincial election, Kadir is seen sitting in the men's only section of the rally while the women at the rally, veiled, sit on the other side.
There is no wall or curtain between the group. The event took place near a mosque, the Centre communautaire musulman de Montréal, in Montreal North.
"The photo says it all," SPQ-Libre administrator Louise Mailloux told the committee. "What you need to understand is that Amir Khadir condones such a rally.
