‘They slaughtered my family & told me to go’:
Heart-wrenching stories of Aleppo orphans (EXCLUSIVE)

As Aleppo has been almost entirely liberated from militants by the Syrian Army, the daunting task of rebuilding people’s lives lies ahead. RT’s Lizzie Phelan met with orphaned children from the city whose harrowing stories epitomize the horrors of war.

Over the past few days, some 100,000 civilians, including 40,000 children, have left eastern Aleppo, according to the Russian Reconciliation Center.

The UN says one in four children have been affected by the Syrian war. In Aleppo, that figure appears a gross understatement, Phelan reports.

Children such as Moussa, who is around eight, Jamil, 14, and Asma – around the same age – shared their chilling experience of watching their parents and siblings killed by terrorists before their eyes while they had to flee the fighting on their own.

“My father was killed five days ago,” says the tearful Asma, who’s been left to fend for herself with her five younger brothers and sisters. The Red Crescent picked them up as it did countless other children from what was the rebel-held Aleppo. Dirty, hungry and too traumatized to talk about their ordeal, they were dropped off at an orphanage a few days ago....

Turkish police and soldiers execute more than 400 people in 2016

AKP’s police and soldiers have captured more than 400 Kurds alive and executed them during the genocidal attacks of 2016. The number of people executed by the police and the army under enemy law just this year has surpassed 400 according to data from the Human Rights Association (Insan Haklari Dernegi – IHD).
A small sample from AKP’s political murders are as follows:

Sêvê Demir, Pakize Nayir and Fatma Uyar were murdered by state forces in Sirnak’s Silopi district on the evening of January 4. It was later found out that the person murdered alongside with the female politicians was Islam Atak (20).

In Van’s Edremit district, 12 HPG members were executed on January 10 in a house raid by the special operations units with the claim that “there was a clash”. Access to the file and autopsy reports on the massacre was barred.

In Mardin’s Kiziltepe district, 4 people lost their lives when special operations police opened fire on a vehicle in Turgut Özal neighborhood on January 12. Witness accounts say the vehicle with the license plate 63 F 1579 was in motion when suddenly it was raked by the police armored vehicles. After the attack, 4 unidentified persons were killed in the vehicle and dozens of bullet holes were seen on the vehicle. Later it was found out that one of the people who were executed was DBP administrator Cengiz Erdem, brother of Aydin Erdem who was murdered by the police in a student protest in Amed in 2009.

In Van, a young man named Nadir Tezgel was executed during a raid by the special operations units on January 21.....

Yet again Washington allows Palmyra
to be occupied by Daesh
Once again, Daesh has seized Palmyra following a surprise attack in the period 9 - 12 December 2016.

The “High Representative” of the “Syrian Opposition”, Riad Hijab, has denounced the forces of the Syrian “regime” who pounce on “unarmed civilians” at Aleppo but “jump ship like rats when confronted by the jihadists of the Islamic State at Palmyra.” The reality is a very different story.

In a synchronized [manoeuvre], 5,000 jihadists arrived at Rakka and Mosul to catch in a vice, the thousands of Syrian soldiers defending the city. The Syrian Arab Army had barely enough time to evacuate the civilians and to destroy its arsenal before retreating.

The United States has pushed Daesh to invade the Sunni part of Iraq in June 2014, in order to cut land communications between Tehran and Damascus, the final stage in the “Silk Route”. Once Mosul (Iraq) has been taken, Daesh moved on to Palmyra (Syria) in May 2015. Its troops had then crossed the border under the watch of the US forces who had not intervened and had not even sounded an alert. However, the town had been liberated in March 2016.....

Amid Finger Pointing at Russia,
US Brings Tanks Back to Cold War Depot
'We need to take action,' says President Obama

As President Barack Obama vows that the United States will take "action" in response to the allegations that Russia interfered with the November election, the U.S. army has started to bring tanks back to a Cold War site in the Netherlands as a show of its "commitment to deterrence in Europe."

The U.S. and Dutch military reopened the Eygelshoven site on Thursday. It will contain "strategically prepositioned critical war stock" including M1 Abrams Tanks and M109 Paladin Self-Propelled Howitzers.....

As the hysteria about Russia’s alleged interference

MEMORANDUM
Allegations of Hacking Election Are Baseless
A New York Times report on Monday alluding to “overwhelming circumstantial evidence” leading the CIA to believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin “deployed computer hackers with the goal of tipping the election to Donald J. Trump” is, sadly, evidence-free. This is no surprise, because harder evidence of a technical nature points to an inside leak, not hacking – by Russians or anyone else
Monday’s Washington Post reports that Sen. James Lankford, R-Oklahoma, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, has joined other senators in calling for a bipartisan investigation of suspected cyber-intrusion by Russia. Reading our short memo could save the Senate from endemic partisanship, expense and unnecessary delay.

In what follows, we draw on decades of senior-level experience – with emphasis on cyber-intelligence and security – to cut through uninformed, largely partisan fog. Far from hiding behind anonymity, we are proud to speak out with the hope of gaining an audience appropriate to what we merit – given our long labors in government and other areas of technology. And corny though it may sound these days, our ethos as intelligence professionals remains, simply, to tell it like it is – without fear or favor.

We have gone through the various claims about hacking. For us, it is child’s play to dismiss them. The email disclosures in question are the result of a leak, not a hack. Here’s the difference between leaking and hacking:

‘Lies are their agenda’:
Canadian journalist blasts MSM Syria coverage at UN event (VIDEO)
Western mainstream media’s coverage of the Syrian war is “compromised” as their local sources are “not credible” and, in the case of Aleppo, not even there, a Canadian journalist said in an emotional speech at the UN.

“I’ve been many times to Homs, to Maaloula, to Latakia and Tartus [in Syria] and again, Aleppo, four times. And people’s support of their government is absolutely true. Whatever you hear in the corporate media is completely opposite,” Eva Bartlett, a Canadian journalist and rights activist, told a press conference arranged by the Syrian mission to the UN.

“And, on that note, what you hear in the corporate media, and I will name them – BBC, Guardian, the New York Times etc. – on Aleppo is also the opposite of reality,” she added. The mainstream media narrative, she argued, is meant to mislead the public about what is really happening in Syria by demonizing President Bashar Assad’s government and altering the facts on Russia’s support for Damascus.......

Watch Stephen Colbert spread fake news,
blast Rex Tillerson, and expose his bigotry towards Russian people
If Stephen Colbert made fun of any other culture in such a manner, it would be blasted as racism and bigotry.

.......Colbert uses that power to spread his liberal religion on to the masses. It’s a religion that has Hillary Clinton as savior, Trump as the devil, and all Russians as lower than life, bumbling Soviet fools, controlled by a strong man dictator.

Colbert seems to always ignore that his liberal ideology has destroyed millions of lives in Iraq, Libya, Serbia, Afghanistan, Yemen, and Syria…while his savior knowingly rigged the primary election against Bernie Sanders, and is now ready to lie about Russian hackers in order to create a constitutional crisis in the USA.

Never mind the small little fact that the RNC was never hacked, that Craig Murray and Julian Assange have both met the individual who leaked the Podesta emails, and that the FBI refuses to corroborate the CIA’s “Russia election hack” story because of lack of evidence.

Evidence and fact are like kryptonite to liberal minds. Its all about holier than thou values, that today’s hollywood forces upon you at gun point......

Someone Has Officially Called the CIA’s Bluff over Russia

The scapegoating of Russia is now so widespread, Dirty Wars author and investigative journalist Jeremy Scahill took to The Intercept to call the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on its bluff.

In the article, “Obama Must Declassify Evidence Of Russian Hacking,” Scahill and Jon Schwartz called out U.S. intelligence agencies for their record of deceit, asserting that the American people are not going to simply “take their word for it.”

“U.S. intelligence agencies have repeatedly demonstrated that they regularly both lie and get things horribly wrong,” the article argues. But when it comes to the CIA’s case against Russia’s alleged interference with the latest U.S. presidential elections, it’s impossible to claim the hearsay is based on facts if evidence is not made available to support the agency’s claims.

Nevertheless, Scahill and Schwartz argue, it’s possible that Russia may have pulled some strings. But even if the Kremlin had its reasons and acted on them, America is the country with the long history of election meddling — not Russia.

Take Hillary Clinton’s comments on the Palestinian elections, for instance. A leaked audio recording from 2006 revealed then-senator Clinton advocated doing “something to determine who was going to win” in Palestine’s elections. And yet here she is, hoping to use the “Russia did it” talking point to give censorship a boost. The CIA has its own history of meddling in foreign elections.

In order to give Barack Obama’s administration that extra push to release any “proof” the CIA has that the 2016 U.S. elections were “rigged,” the Intercept’s duo encouraged feds or whistleblowers to use the publication’s secure drop link, where a “patriotic whistleblower” within the U.S. intelligence community may drop the leak that proves Russia is behind President-elect Donald Trump’s win. “[W]e will verify its legitimacy and publish it,” they added.......

Ok...she is a bad girl, she lied.  But what about the parents. The ongoing Yemeni civil war
has pushed the country closer to collapse and to the brink of famine. New figures released by children’s charity UNICEF show that more than 462,000 children there are coping with severe acute malnutrition and are at risk of starvation — a staggering 200 percent increase since 2014 — and 2.2. million children require urgent care.

“Malnutrition in Yemen is at an all-time high and increasing,” said Dr. Meritxell Relano, a UNICEF representative in Yemen. “The state of health of children in the Middle East’s poorest country has never been as catastrophic as it is today.”....

9th Circuit hears oral argument in Saleh v. Bush, et al.

San Francisco, Calif. — December 12, 2016 was a historic day, marking the first time that a U.S. court heard argument related to the actions of senior Bush-era officials who were responsible for the planning and waging of the Iraq War.

Circuit court judges Andrew Hurwitz and Susan Graber and District Court judge Richard Boulware (sitting by designation on the 9th Circuit), heard argument that the immunity granted to former President George W. Bush and other officials by the federal district court related to their conduct in waging the Iraq War should be overturned. This immunity was provided in December 2014, resulting in the current appeal.

The judges spent most of oral argument focusing on the nature of the domestic immunity, questioning both counsel for the Iraqi plaintiff, Sundus Saleh, as well as counsel for the United States about where immunity ends for government officials.

The judges will issue their opinion as to whether the immunity should be overturned in the coming weeks.....

The Myth of India
as an Upcoming Asian Economic Powerhouse. Rising Poverty and Social Inequality
A common myth around the world is that, India is developing country at a very rapid pace and going to be a powerhouse in Asia soon. Some even argue we should learn from them and some argue independence should have never happened and we would have been a better off with India rather than independent. And even some pessimist especially Pakistani and Bangladeshi people regret the independence in 1947 and common chorus can be heard “look where India has reached today and where we are”.

Regret or not, but it is important to see where India stands today, the idea to write regarding this is to differentiate the illusion from fact and give reason so the sane understanding follows. A nation is called developing not because of its population, or defense budget, but how good the people fare in that country; it is about the human development and economic growth which include improving education and health by having less people as possible under the poverty line and high incomes per capita of citizen in the country, this will come when the state will have a sound economic system.

India is no doubt one of the biggest democracy in the world; because it has the highest population, Simple! (China highly populist, and officially “communist”). India is the second biggest nation in the world in terms of population and seventh largest in terms of area. According to the IMF as of 2015, the Indian economically nominally worth US$ 2.182 trillion, it, it’s the eleventh largest economy in terms of market exchange rates at US$ 8.027 trillion, third largest by PPP, with an annual GDP growth of last decade’s 5.8%.[1]...

On the University of Toronto student mixed up in the Bangladesh terror attack of July 1

The pics at the article are very damaging but are they photoshopped?  Anything is possible these days, so that possibility should not be overruled.
However, IF the pics are not photoshopped, the big question that should be answered by Tahmid Khan, "permanent resident" status holder is: "How was he able to access the rooftop of the restaurant in company with suspects involved in the atrocity and how come he appears cool and calm and chatting away like he's  one of them?"

CBC has given a comprehensive enough report, see below.

Macleans has just glazed over the issue as have many other Canadian news outlets.
Globe and Mail has not showed the pics.

National Post has the photographs with a "body-language" expert saying the student is "innocent"  -  had no idea there were "body-language experts" leave alone that they can tell who's innocent and who's not.

If  he's really innocent, then it's just horrid luck he happened to be in the restaurant and was told to pick up a gun and kept holding on to it even when taking the air up on the roof.

Bangladesh extends detention of Toronto student as photos surface of him holding gun

'Anyone that has known him for five seconds knows that he’s not capable of doing something like this'
In a T-shirt emblazoned with a red maple leaf, Tahmid Khan was led to a Bangladeshi court Saturday, where a judge authorized police to continue holding the University of Toronto student in connection with a deadly café attack claimed by ISIS that killed 20 hostages.

The six-day extension comes about one week after Bangladeshi police announced that the 22-year-old had been arrested, seeking permission from the court to question him along with British national Hasnat Karim, 47, for 10 days.

Friends and family of the Canadian permanent resident have vigorously maintained that Khan has been held in police custody since the July 1 attack, and is innocent.

"They don't have to articulate to the court what the suspicion is, whether they have any evidence," lawyer Marlys Edwardh told CBC News of the Bangladeshi authorities.

"They're not obliged to do anything more than saying, 'We have a suspicion and we'd like a few more days to investigate.' That's what happened today."

Saturday's decision followed on the publication of photos in the Dhaka Tribune apparently showing Khan holding a gun on the rooftop of the Holey Artisan Bakery restaurant, along with one of the suspects in the attack. Security forces would later storm the restaurant on July 2, killing the gunmen and rescuing the remaining 13 hostages.....

On the jihadi attack and siege of a popular cafe in Dhaka, Bangladesh

Wherever there are Wahhabi madrasas, there you will find jihadis aplenty.
Question: Who is responsible for all the deaths (not just the cafe ones) in Bangladesh by jihadis?
Answer: The Government of Bangladesh is solely responsible for flooding the country with madrasas which are often the birthplace of  jihadis.

From En.Prothom
A total of 1.4 million students have been studying in 13,902 Qawmi madrasas across the country. Of them, the highest 4,599 madrasas are located in Dhaka division while the lowest 1,040 are in Barisal, says a report.

The report prepared by Bangladesh Bureau of Educational Information and Statistics (BANBEIS) following the directives of the Prime Minister’s Office, is the first ever study conducted on Qawmi madrasas in Bangladesh.....

Tahmina Anam at Guardian dated May 2011 (gives a very mild version of what goes on in a girls' madrasa)
An education: Inside Bangladesh's madrasas

Bangladesh's madrasas are viewed with suspicion for their links with militant Islam. So what kind of schooling do they offer girls? Tahmima Anam entered their secretive world to find out

....Bangladesh has two kinds: private Quomi madrasas and state-sponsored Alia madrasas. There are an estimated 6,500 Quomi madrasas in the country, with almost 1.5 million students. The Quomi madrasas are entirely supported by private donations, enabling these institutions to resist any efforts by the state to control, modernise or reform them. By contrast, there are 7,000 or so Alia madrasas, which follow a standardised syllabus that includes subjects such as English, Bengali, science, and mathematics. They dispense degrees, up to MA level, and are registered with, and regulated by, the Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board. The students who graduate from Alia madrasas often go on to complete their education at secular institutions – in fact, 32% of Bangladeshi university teachers in the humanities and social sciences are graduates of Alia madrasas. Depending on how you look at it, madrasas are either an insignificant proportion of the education system, or crucial in determining the future of the nation's relationship to its faithful.....

Bangladesh Attack Is New Evidence That ISIS Has  Shifted Its Focus Beyond the Mideast
The cook was crouching in a washroom, taking refuge from the gunmen who had invaded the Holey Artisan Bakery, when he understood that there was a logic behind the killing: The people in the restaurant were being sorted.

“Bengali people, come out,” one gunman shouted. When the cook, Sumir Barai, and eight other men opened the bathroom door, trembling, they saw two young men, clean shaven and dressed in jeans and T-shirts.

“You don’t need to be so tense,” one of the men told them. “We will not kill Bengalis. We will only kill foreigners.” At that, Mr. Barai’s gaze flicked to the floor of the restaurant, where he could see six or seven bodies, apparently shot and then sliced with machetes. All appeared to be foreigners.

The gunmen, he said, seemed eager to see their actions amplified on social media: After killing the patrons, they asked the staff to turn on the restaurant’s wireless network. Then they used customers’ telephones to post images of the bodies on the internet.....

...Bangladesh’s 160 million people are almost all Sunni Muslims, including a demographic bulge under the age of 25. This makes it valuable as a recruiting ground for the Islamic State, now under pressure in its core territory of Iraq and Syria. Thailand becomes one of world's top hubs for human trafficking and kidnapping

Will the Uyghurs, the Rohingya and the Bangladeshis presently held in Thailand, find their way to Canada as refugees?  Yup, yup and double yup!!  Wait and see. The Uyghur Canadian Society  (yeh ... who knew, eh?) based in Montreal, has already been contacted. Strange that a Canadian Uyghur would be contacted for translating to the Thai police what the leader of the Chinese Uyghur had to say. Did the Uyghur Canadian Society sprinkle their telephone numbers in the Chinese Uyghur community ... just in case?   Hmmmmmm!

Andrew RC Marshall at Reuters:
....Suspected Uighurs rescued  from Thai trafficking camp.
Police rescued about 200 suspected Muslim Uighurs from a human smuggling camp in southern Thailand, police sources said on Friday, in the latest crackdown on a burgeoning trafficking network in Southeast Asia.
The rescue of the Uighurs, believed to be from China's troubled far-western region of Xinjiang, brings the total number of people freed from human traffickers to well over 800 since Reuters exposed the whereabouts of the illegal camps in a December 5 investigation.

The raid is further evidence that human smugglers in southern Thailand - already a notorious trafficking hub for Rohingya boat people from Myanmar - are exploiting well-oiled networks to transport other nationalities in large numbers, despite an ongoing crackdown by Thai police.....
.....Two police raids in January, based on information provided in the Reuters investigation, freed a total of 636 people. At least 200 of them were Bangladeshis - an "unprecedented" number, said Thatchai....

....The Reuters investigation in December reported that Rohingya were held hostage in illegal camps hidden near the border with Malaysia until relatives paid ransoms to release them. Some were beaten and killed. ....

....Those rescued included at least 100 children, most of them toddlers or still breastfeeding, and a pregnant woman. ....

.....Police say the group claims they are Turkish, although they have no documents to prove that.
The group in Hat Yai shows strong similarities to Turkic-speaking Uighur asylum-seekers who have been detained in Bangkok, police sources say....
....Their silence is only broken by the mewling of children. They all have fair, Caucasian features and the women wear headscarves which leave only the eyes uncovered.

"These people will refuse to acknowledge Chinese citizenship to avoid being forcibly repatriated," said Kayum Masimov, president of the Montreal-based Uyghur Canadian Society. "They will simply refuse to talk. They fear for their safety."

Masimov spoke by telephone to the man identified by police as the group's leader and said he understood the Uighur language. The leader gestured toward men not to talk when Reuters approached them......

From SouthChinaMorningPost:
....200 'Turkish refugees'  rescued from Thai slave camp turn out to be Uygurs
200, half of them children, found at southern Thai rubber plantation claim to be from Turkey to avoid being forcibly returned to China.
Some 200 people rescued by police from a human trafficking camp in southern Thailand are suspected to be Uygur Muslims from Xinjiang , Thai police sources said yesterday.....

An American and a Briton tried in absentia by Bangladesh and sentenced to death by hanging

Bangladesh has shown the dhimmi Western nations how they would have dealt with these two killers if they had not escaped to the USA and UK.  In the USA, the murderer Khan is a leader in similar groups that are banned in Bangladesh.

From InvestigativeProject:
....ICNA Leader Convicted in 1971 Bangladesh Massacres.  A war crimes tribunal in Bangladesh convicted Ashrafuzzaman Khan and a second man Sunday on 11 charges related to the kidnapping and murder of 18 intellectuals at the end of the country's 1971 war of independence.
Khan is a past secretary general of the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) and a leader of the group's New York chapter. His name was removed from the ICNA-New York web page last month but he remains listed as the northeastern contact for the North American Imam's Federation.
The special Bangladesh court issued a death sentence by hanging for Khan and co-defendant Chowdhury Mueen Uddin, who lives in the United Kingdom. Both men were tried in absentia, represented by court-appointed counsel

"Justice will not be done if they are not awarded capital punishment," senior judge Obaidul Hassan said in court.
A parade of witnesses testified that Khan and Chowdhury led a band of gunmen who kidnapped doctors, professors and journalists in the waning days of Bangladesh's war to gain independence from Pakistan. The victims later were found in mass graves........

I wonder how many thousands of Bangladeshis will file false refugee claims and how many tens of thousands Canada will accept

You wanna bet that that won't be so ??   Canada is dhimmi enough to believe anything anybody tells them..... otherwise we wouldn't be in the present islamic mess we are facing in this country.  Admit it !!

I wonder why Muslim countries don't take refugees from other Muslim countries?  Ever wondered about that?  Know of any Muslim country that accepts Muslim refugees in the kind of numbers that Western Christian countries are foolish enough to do?

From HumanRightsAsia:
....News reports from Bangladesh  allege that a series of attacks on demonstrators have taken place, at around 3am today, May 6, 2013. The extent of the injuries and death is difficult to be ascertained at the moment. The Daily Star, a Bangladeshi newspaper, gave the figure of deaths as 5. However, several internet reports have mentioned that the number of deaths could be as high as 2,500 or more. Pictures of dead bodies have also been distributed over the internet. Major news channels in Bangladesh have been silenced. Two private television channels that were showing live pictures of the attacks upon the demonstrators were immediately closed down. The authorities have, later in the morning, imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, (a provision similar to declaring internal emergency) in the city of Dhaka, under which more than four persons are not allowed to converge in public places and the declaration absolutely prohibits public protest. Worse, the executive authorities could use deadly force against civilians under this provision. All forms of public gatherings, rallies and protests have been prohibited until the midnight today, May 6.

The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has learned that the security forces, including the Border Guards Bangladesh, the Rapid Action Battalion and the Police, started a massive crackdown on the demonstrators of the Hefazat-E-Islam early morning on Monday. According to unverified information the AHRC has received, a huge number of lives have already been lost. Numerous victims have been shot at close range by the state agencies. It appears that the international community stationed in Dhaka is fully aware of the brutal crackdown and the wanton extrajudicial execution happening within Dhaka and in the outskirts of the city.

Another "leading" Caliphated Britian's leaders in the news

My, my, my !!!!  Now isn't that so very shocking !!!  We never knew Britian had this many leaders in the making of the UK Caliphate, did we?

And here's England's prime dhimmi with the "spiritual caretaker of British muslims".  What a pair!

...Chowdhury Mueen-Uddin, director of Muslim spiritual care provision in the NHS, a trustee of the major British charity Muslim Aid and a central figure in setting up the Muslim Council of Britain, fiercely denies any involvement in a number of abductions and "disappearances" during Bangladesh's independence struggle in the 1970s.

He says the claims are "politically-motivated" and false.

However, Mohammad Abdul Hannan Khan, the chief investigator for the country's International Crimes Tribunal, said: "There is prima facie evidence of Chowdhury Mueen-Uddin being involved in a series of killings of intellectuals.

"We have made substantial progress in the case against him. There is no chance that he will not be indicted and prosecuted. We expect charges in June."

Mr Mueen-Uddin could face the death penalty if convicted...

How Bangladesh got rid of a Nobel Laureate because he was helping women to help themselves

This should be clear as day to the western nations who flood this country with supposedly aid dollars for women and the poor. Moslem countries like Bangladesh and the rest of the riff raff cavemen countries do their best to keep women in their place (that's behind burkhas and over their stoves or slaves chained to their beds) because empowering women means going against their book of lies.

Here's a list of all the stuff we do and give to Bangadesh .... a country that does not believe in bringing their people out of poverty.... a country that wants to dumb down their population and keep them chained in slavery to their cavemen religion.

Do you think our millions of dollars flowing to Bangladesh has done any good there ?

From the Globe&Mail:  The decision of Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus to give in to government pressure and step down from the Grameen Bank should not be seen as a victory for opponents of microfinance. Mr. Yunus is the victim of a mean-spirited campaign, and of the complicated internal politics of Bangladesh. He resigned as the bank’s managing director, as he said in a statement this week, to prevent more damage being done to the bank he founded 34 years ago, and to its 8.3 million customers.

The Bangladeshi government moved against Mr. Yunus on the grounds of corruption, accusing him of spending years “sucking the blood of the poor.” However, the facts do not support that conclusion.

Microfinance, which offers small loans to poor people who lack access to formal financial institutions, has proven to be an effective poverty-alleviation tool, despite recent criticisms of usury. Interest rates are high because of the high cost of collecting payments on millions of tiny loans. The Grameen Bank, which has lent $10.3-billion since its founding, boasts a 97-per-cent loan-recovery rate. Most of the borrowers are women....
