Cockroach robots; October 7; death by firing squad; and bicycles in China

By Mila Halgren & Alex Rewegan September 3, 2026 See an insect crawling in the corner of the room? It might be a surveillance robot, thanks to research at Carnegie Mellon University to develop cockroach-like robots with, and for, the Israeli military. Robot cockroaches, “terror-network” mapping, and rapid missile guidance are just three examples of at least 70 research projects U.S. universities have conducted on behalf of the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMoD). Over a thousand pages of internal university and U.S./Israeli military documents reveal a sweeping, decades-long program to sponsor military research collaborations with at least 30 U.S. universities, from Cornell to the University of California at San Diego, since at least 2009. Projects are conducted in collaboration with the Israeli military and sometimes explicitly incorporate environmental conditions in Palestine into the work. One project designed fuel cells for “distributed sensor networks” tailored to the temperature and soil conditions of an Israeli border that could monitor “potential terrorist activity” for “border security.” Recent reports from Dropsite News, The Nation, and the Anti-War Initiative found millions of Israeli military dollars flowing into U.S. schools. Public records obtained from 13 U.S. universities reveal this money was directed via a U.S. arms export program to fund collaborations with Israeli scientists and military officials............. 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 https://thedissidentvoice.org/2026/10/10-reasons-for-public-executions/ 10 Reasons for Public Executions by David Swanson / October 10th, 2026 There was no public demand that led to the U.S. military announcing that it would publicly execute someone on livestreamed video (a list of advertisers, if any, during the broadcast has not been released — add your guesses below). No polling favored it. No fashion for being like Saudi Arabia was afloat. Outside of Supreme Court Justices, a return to the 18th century is generally not in vogue. So why do it? I can guess at a few contributing factors. They can probably do it. They can’t take over countries. They can’t steal Iran’s oil. They can’t make Greenland a state. They can’t end or make anyone like their wars in Palestine or Ukraine. They can’t own Cuba. They can’t make actual humans with brains believe in the Golden Dome. They can’t stop soldiers from jumping off their ships or murdering girls near bases in Asia. The only things less popular than data centers, ICE thugs, or new nuclear waste sites, are their endless pointless wars. Trump wants to build an arch for a conquering Roman emperor because he renamed a lake or something, but he can’t even do that. This they can do. They can shoot a man with a bunch of guns and watch him die. They can declare victory. They can scream USA USA Number One Number One and justify it with having actually done a thing. There was only a small step left. The murders of fishermen on boats are posted on social media. The genocide in Gaza is livestreamed. Mass shootings of the sort that this murder-spectacle claims to be addressing (themselves very disproportionately generated by the U.S. military) receive massive wall-to-wall media coverage beginning moments after they happen. Movies and television shows, which many often struggle to fully distinguish from reality, are saturated with murder, as well as with the glorification of revenge. Viewers have been extensively trained to cheer for good, noble, revenge murders, and to engage in them themselves in video games. In a culture (yes, they have existed) from which an individual could be traumatized by a single clip of a Hollywood movie murder, a public murder spectacle would be a catastrophe of world-shattering proportions. In a society whose largest investment is in an institution called the War Department, this step by that department is much smaller. In their tiny little minds they consider this a war against an enemy, and an enemy of the very worst sort — a traitor. In a war, you kill people. You don’t kill certain people in proper ways under certain peculiar circumstances.............. 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
