From Mecca with MERS

Likely to happen.   And why not?  Everything evil has spouted from Mecca so why not this new disease too.

From DailyBhaskar:
... The entire world is threatened by Middle East Respiratory Syndrome as Mecca gets ready to host millions of pilgrims from all around the world as part of its annual Hajj pilgrimage.

The disease is said to be even more dangerous than SARS as more than 60 cases were reported last year by World Health Organisation.

Authorities are desperately trying to prevent the outbreak of MERS, as it is commonly known, during the pilgrimage.
Out of the 77 confirmed cases, 62 have been reported from Saudi Arabia and left 34 dead.
The annual pilgrimage hosts millions of people from all across the world. Last year, more than 6 million people arrived in the holy city of Mecca to take part in the annual pilgrimage.

The disease has been compared to the deadly SARS virus that killed 800 people in 2003.
MERS could easily become one of the deadliest epidemics, with fatality rate of 65 percent as against SARS 8 percent fatality rate, according to observations by doctors.

Some peculiar cases of MERS have shown that the disease spread even when the patient was not in contact with an infected person, have left doctors wondering.
Cases have been reported from Qatar and other Middle -Eastern countries as well. WHO is set to meet in Cairo next month to discuss MERS and its potential threat.
